I can't really think that a 5-person podium would have any influence on someone wanting to tune in to watch if the rest of the product was really good. But the downsides to the riders are real, and have a measurable impact on bonus money. Their unwillingness to consider the rider's concerns is very upsetting.

Are there also fines for showing up on the podium without being called up? Just protest by having the 4th and 5th riders walk up to their respective spots by the podium? Bonus if the UCI make a big fuss about it, that's even more exposure for all of the athletes and sponsors who were on the podium that day.

What do you mean baby a long travel rig? Have you seen what material gravity race bikes have been made from for the last........10 years? I've seen more catastrophically broken alloy bikes in that time, and Pivot/Santa Cruz customers just plain don't want Aluminium anyway
