I appreciate the info my friend. You went over my head with most of it as I’m primarily a moto guy but I get the gist 🤙🏼. Guess I’m locked into a 2 yr buying cycle for a while but I am a believer in having the right equipment for your kid. And still affordable compared to dirt bikes 😎My 9 yr old likes the drops as well - good times @Bentonville

So, simultaneously, bikes and bike-related products are way too expensive, while the people who design and maintain them are underpaid. This industry truly is a mess.

only slapping this in here because of the topic of wages that came up. here's how much you can make in rural tennessee working at a massive gas station (saw it on the way to windrock). nearly quarter of a mil for experienced GM lol

I'm rooting for the absolute hellion living in a singlewide trailer with his chainsmoking granny that's in detention drinking Robitussin so he can see that tiny pink elephant again. I need the kid in a 2WD Nissan Hardbody, blue Dickies jumper & Vans on a clapped out 2019 Intense that's been primered to win everything on the regional circuit. Or the kid in a bullet helmet & polka dot skinsuit. That kid rules.

Great find!!! If anyone wants to read it, you can usually go into an incognito browser and then google the headline - click on the link - this gets you around the paywall. I really want Robot to read it and select a few choice quotes, there are a high number in this one ("synergies", "strategic plan" and "operational improvements" are all mentioned in this single article). Regardless, it's interesting to see the FT write about topics we've been discussing in this thread for years. While it breaks no new ground with respect to the overall direction of the industry...

That is one of the nicest versions of "don't be a d1ck" I have ever read, thank you for that. We're all here because we love this stuff and it takes no effort to assume good intentions and be kind.

Small piece of advice, take it or leave it, but there are more generous ways to say "hey, I found something too!" As I’ve mentioned a few times, this thread feels more like a collaborative 6th grade social studies project than high-level buy-side analysis. People generally give each other the benefit of the doubt, and the usual passive-aggressive Reddit snark tends to stay out of the room. Of course, do as you wish. I just like to believe there are better ways to engage. @CascadeComponents this was exactly what I was curious about. Thanks for the thoughtful context. In the...

I’m with you 100%, but I guess that’s where the extra ‘trail’ designation comes in? That being said, stem and bars are the one place I’d always sacrifice weight for strength and confidence.

Different seat height every time I extend the dropper, and having to micro-tune seat height with the lever every time? Hard pass, for me and especially for beginner riders.

I'll bash them for you. All influencers are awful. Seth's bike hacks was the start of it and ruined everything. Everytime I see any influencer content recommended to me I die a little more inside. Bashing aside, I think the rise of influencers as marketing in mountain biking and cycling in general is a sign of the sport losing its identity. Whether that's good or bad is up to you, but most influencer content I see markets more to out groups and casual people over core riders, and with the covid casual rider kind of phasing out, I wonder if...

I’m just under 5’11 and have massive amounts of seatpost showing on my s3 Enduro. But I agree, they should come with the shorter posts rather than the absolute max. We can all ride with a saddle that doesn’t quite drop as much as “you’d” like, but you sure as hell can’t ride a bike with a seatpost is too long. Showing my age but I was riding before droppers - they never stopped us having fun. I can’t think of a single bike on the market that doesn’t have at least a 100mm drop. If you can’t ride with...

While we're discussing dropper seatpost consumer behaviour rumours, Merida has it figured out. As anybody who's been paying attention to Merida knows, its current FS models have a straight seat tube so that every single frame size comes with the same adjustable post that can be set to drop anywhere between 30 mm and 230 mm. I don't think it's available aftermarket yet, though.

I am 6’. I ride a large Ripmo AF. I have a 175mm dropper and I have to slam my post to pedal when it’s extended. I have short legs. I would probably never be able to ride a 200mm dropper on a full suspension due to packaging constraints. If you could even get a frame designed to have enough...
