Any thoughts on creating a new thread with to sole focus being DJI/Avinox/Amflow + Future (which can be technology and business)? I know a number of you subscribe to this looking for a broader range of things to be talked about. I'm happy to start one if you guys want.

I'll just say this (for now); off the record I've heard from many sources both Bosch and DJI are exploring gear box alternatives. DJI (Avinox) all but said it on the record. If I were a betting man I'd bet Sea Otter 2027 is focused around this one topic.

The big incentive for DJI to take out SRAM/Shimano is I don't think the current drivetrains can really handle this kind of power for these durations. Sure a quick sprint here and there is no big deal, but turn that 3s sprint into 30+mins every ride and you've got massive drivetrain wear problems. Also with the torque these things make, you don't need anything like the gear range we have now. I'm already seeing people complaining about the rate at which they go through drivetrain parts (and the traditional grinding paste lube people use isn't helping anything). The big advantage...

I'm fascinated, and terrified in some sense, by how this monster motor power thing will play out. At this point, DJI/Avinox can just go full force into an MGU and take Shimano and SRAM out at the knees. Also, do American brains get tripped up on the watts to horsepower conversion? Would people care more if we told them that Avinox has 2HP on tap with normal (187 watts/0.25HP) effort? Will they only do the math when an M2S bike is coming at them uphill at 20 mph. If I may, let's get this thread back to some troubling financial...

Any chance we can take this ebike power rules chat to a new thread? A few pages ago it was fascinating reading about Alta's struggle and DJI's structure vs old school German power.

And 43 watts is basically the power you put out by just letting the weight of your leg push the pedal. Almost no effort at all.

TQ is developing a new motor, a bit smaller/lighter than the current one but with 100 Nm if I am correct. I should be out next summer not before. So it could be the reason. It is a shame for Santa to go away from the VPP system ... :-(

Engineers at Scott must be going insane after finding out Specialized has beaten them at making the most complicated MTB to service, the next Gambler will have 32 pivots in retaliation

I'd buy neither as they're both compromised. This is getting old BTW.

It may not be a "whole separate sport", but there sure is a "whole separate text thread" for the e-bike riders in my friend circle. Now we rarely have big group rides as the crew is split in two and it's a pain to ride laps with both bike types together. So I'd say its a "whole different discipline" of pedaling a rolling thing with your feet.

I don't want to come off as angry or pretentious, but I find what's going on with Avinox and the Spesh "class 2" emtb disgusting. I'm curious how the people at traditional bike companies feel about what they're helping proliferate into our world for all of the people who created and maintain the trails (mostly volunteers like myself) to contend with. How conflicted are they? Between the general financial malaise in the industry, 32" wheels nobody truly seems excited about, and the unprincipled embrace of avivox/DJI/amflow, what is general morale like? Conversely, and assuming everyone there isn't also yelling at...

Yeah, there is a big focus on the motor tech for obvious reasons, but battery tech is where the real future is, and china and its firms are all in on batteries. It's where you will get the greater range and lighter weight that the ebike market wants. On a more macro scale, battery tech (energy storage) has quietly changed the world in the last 20 years, and will completely remake it in the next 20. When you look into the economies of scale of current day solar and battery tech, it truly puts into prospective how antiquated oil and...

They missed the DJI train but amongst that and a normal rear triangle, the lede was buried a bit: there's different links so you can change the travel in addition to modular dropouts if 435mm chainstays aren't your fancy

There are some people (including me) who do not want full power tho. I just bought my first e-bike, and after trying the CX5 motor, it was clear to me that full power isn't remotely interesting to me. Where I tried the bike, after 1h of riding I had completed all the trails (6 laps), I wasn't motivated to keep on riding and didn't feel tired (except upper body hehe), and the bike felt like a tank while descending. Not super fun. I'm on the TQ60 (edit: Sight VLT TQ, for those wondering) now and it seems like it the...
