I also usually use the tip of a razor blade. Or a smaller/thinner pick than the Park Tool ones.

I use X-Acto knife/blade with a fine point, it's thinner than awls and you can pop the seal without bending it if you are careful.

For the VPP question, I feel like VPP doesn't really matter until you hit 140-150mm+ travel wise. I 100% don't advocate this method, but I tend to find that using a drill (press the chuck into the inner race) to spin up a frame bearing that feels a little rough can work wonders and make it feel much smother. I normally pop the seals and flush out the old grease and renew once I've done that. Helps me extend the life of the bearings, I don't think they enjoy the small repetitive movement in pivots and spinning them up seems to help.

This may not always be the case, but a lifetime bearing warranty often brings an incentive for the manufacturer not to have to supply 20 sets of bearings per frame, so they design and spec better. Frames with bearings in linkages are my preference provided they are quality - not much point having bearings in linkages if the pivot axle is wearing a groove in your frame. This is only true in a certain ecosystem. To not get caught you need significant amounts of money to fund the doping at the edges. Most athletes don’t have it. doping was widely discussed in EWS circles pre UCI merger. The fact doping in sport is illegal in parts of Europe regardless of whether or not your governing body is a wada signitory, and that’s probably what pushed EWS over the edge. At the same time, posting in forums claiming specific, named, athletes have doped, without proof, is shitty behaviour.
