4/23/2026 7:22am I half wrote an essay before realising it was more of a rant; essentially I think the power wars risk breaking the social contract of responsible land use, where I live we have very small woods and they’re intensively used for recreation. The tacit agreement is that you’re allowed to do you there under your own power, no dirt bikes, no quads etc. If this is perceived to be broken because you can razz around on fire road climbs at 20mph then I reckon land managers will just ban bikes altogether because it would be too difficult to only ban...

4/22/2026 5:25pm Somehow, the 12-13 y/os that I see on Surrons here occasionally seem to be very fond of their FF helmets, apparently giving them the big boy on a big bike vibe. I would not bet my money on your strategy.

4/22/2026 5:19pm Anyone tried the Hexagon components levers yet? I have a set on my bench, and they are the prettiest things. The company is about 1hr away from me and I wanted to support a local small business but the appeal of these surpassed my expectations,

4/22/2026 5:10pm On the one hand, yes, and also no. Yes, totally, optimal stiffness for any bicycle chassis component is highly contingent on rider weight, riding style, and terrain. So I imagine a bike that's "too stiff" on average will suit some riders at the margins and a bike that's "too flexy" on average will suit others. This is actually a huge gripe I have with the bike industry in general, because products are almost always advertised as a one-size-fits-all solution, and they aren't/don't/can't. On the other hand, I don't tend to think Kiran is bullshitting me, because I've known him for...

4/22/2026 12:21pm The smaller the chainrings are, the higher the forces in the chain for a given power load. Because the two primary chainrings are fairly small (around 20t), the loads in the chain are high. Thus, apparently, the need for two of them. So it's not a patent circumvention thing...

4/22/2026 12:20pm My assumption is to split the load to two sets of chain gears for slower wear and longer service intervals.

4/22/2026 9:25am Doesn't a VPP shock tunnel eliminate both of the other two? Besides, is dropper insertion such a big deal on an XC bike?

4/19/2026 9:26am I should have written „for a whole ride“. Your post sounds a bit harsh imho. ;-) And no doubt, there are people who ride their emtbs like regular bikes. And folks who can ride (again) because of emtbs. Cool! And I don’t even judge, as long as people enjoy emtbing, I am happy. Regular bikers can also be fun OR problematic, no worries. But to me it feels more and more like a different sport. It’s not biking it’s biking with a motor… If I am on an emtb, I sure ride differently. And most bikers who were bikers before...

4/19/2026 9:24am I think that's sort of the point, the only metric anyone cares about is the motor. The essence of riding an eBike is what the motor gives you. The rest of the "bike" part takes a back seat. And no one seems to care, even though the slippery slope foreboding was waved away as an irrational fear

4/18/2026 5:32pm Bell Full-Air Mips and 3QTR Air Mips Bell has soft-launched two new helmets—Full-Air Mips and 3QTR Air Mips. Both helmets are available now online, and target enduro, bike park, and e-bike riders. The Full-Air replaces Bell's longstanding and popular Super Air convertible helmet. The new model does not have a removable chin bar, a decision made due to the increased safety provided by the fixed chin bar and updates that have made the new helmet more breathable than the Super Air. The 3QTR Full Air has all the same features, but comes without a chin bar. It offers more coverage...
