5/21/2026 4:02am Has anyone looked at the similarities of the T6 and the late GT frames, yet? https://gtbicycles.com/collections/trail-mountain-bikes/products/sensor…

5/21/2026 3:46am I'll be honest, 15% is pretty low. Not V1 Sentinel low but getting there. Definitely down in the "huh" range. The only way I'd ever expect to get that to not bottom out in the parking lot with a coil is run practically no sag or run an unreasonable amount of damping. I had a V2 Hightower as a personal bike for a bit. It was significantly more progressive with a little more travel and a little more shock stroke to work with. I put a DHX2 on it once for the sake of experimenting. At 30% sag it would...

5/20/2026 4:30am Hey! I only say this to address this comment, as my feedback might be deceiving. I'm likely riding a bike well beyond an acceptable tuning limit for mass consumption. I don't ride like that 24/7 because it's plain unsustainable for me at this stage in life, but when my appetite surpasses self preservation I can dip in there. So, take my comments about my experience with the rear suspension on the Tallboy with a grain of salt. For reference, I'm finding that the Pike feels correct for me and my riding style at about 87psi with H/L comp in the...

5/20/2026 3:55am Need more time and to swap out some parts to give a good answer. Honestly right now it feels like I'm mostly demoing the DD tires so far, because those are the most noticeable difference in the ride feel between the new Nomad and my personal bike. Need to get some control tires on there for comparison. So far 85% of what I feel on the trail feels like it's just the current suspension setup or the tires. The other 15% is contact points (saddle shape and position, bar sweep, grips, Q-factor, etc).

5/19/2026 3:59pm Frame kinematics that require stuffing air cans full of volume spacers and are a big no-go for coil shocks? Hmmm, I feel like we have been here before.

5/19/2026 3:28pm Apparently, the air shock needs all the volume spacers.

5/19/2026 1:44pm Some product launches go so much against the grain of what was preached by the same companies previously that they cause emotional distress and mental model revolts. I don't think this has anything to do with MTB but I have to admit that watching the world burn is my favorite hobby if the heat of the flames aligns with my...

5/19/2026 1:40pm Hey Matt, I rode and wrote about the Tallboy HERE. After only having two days on the bike now, my suspicion is that it's not really going to play that nicely with coil shocks. Ie: the beginning and ending lev ratio, combined with the amount of shock stroke won't offer the support a coil spring requires, nor the distance needed to control the shock with the lower overall progression rate. Like, you might get away with this lev rate on a 60/65mm+ stroke shock as there's more time to control the suspension movement with compression. Hopefully that makes sense? If...

5/19/2026 1:35pm Lots of talk about how it's 300g lighter, but in nearly the same XT di2 build, the intense spider is .2 lbs lighter than the Tallboy and 1400 dollars cheaper.

5/19/2026 1:33pm Yeahh. Sorry, not sorry haha. This is honestly my preferred seat wu, and I pedal quite a lot. This version of the Silverado is actually quite nice and it doesn't feel like it's as nose up as it looks. Like anything else, it's all about what you're used to. If a saddle has more forward tilt to it, I feel like I have too much pressure in my hands while seated. And having C5-7 disc degradation as badly as I do, it helps keep my pelvis rotated back in such a way to alleviate hand numbness that I tend to...

5/19/2026 1:32pm Looks like SC was successful at erasing progression from this frame. 6-7 volume spacers out of 8 required for a 160lbs rider and they are looking into adding more?? I hope SC hasn't become Santa Cursed.

5/19/2026 10:49am Progression is only around 15%, so maybe with a good HBO or bottom out system? It was stated that there is reservoir clearance, but probably not really coil friendly. It is quite appropriate that Santa Cruz launched their new Smuggler in Bellingham. 😁

5/18/2026 5:48pm I use X-Acto knife/blade with a fine point, it's thinner than awls and you can pop the seal without bending it if you are careful.

5/18/2026 5:05pm My memories of 2x are different - 10x the PITA to setup than 3x drivetrains and dropped chains galore, truly the worst of all worlds in my experience.

5/17/2026 8:41am Is it also safe to assume that e-mopeds have a bit different maintenance issues than MTBs? And I am not talking just about motors or teethy bits.

5/16/2026 3:59pm This is the way. I have yet to replace a single bearing in my SC frames as I clean and regrease them 3-4 times a year. After thousands of miles under my fat ass, they still do fine.
