4/29/2026 5:00pm Pick a chainring size and be a dick about it? Honestly who cares. Kind of reminds me of skiing, where if you don’t ski on 130 flex boots you’re a lil bish. I have a commute and regular guy job and live kinda far from trails. I don’t have as much free time as others to be an ascent monster. Let me enjoy my 30t ring. Don’t yuck my yum yo!!

4/29/2026 12:37pm I've been to Primoz' neck of the woods and would like to add that: You should absolutely go to that neck of the woods to ride if you get a chance. Primoz raced cross country for years before switching to longer travel bikes, and was fitter than me when we rode together. He's a great host and I cannot recommend Bled Cream Cake enough. However, I would not recommend eating it right before a 87 F/31 C mountain bike ride with Primoz. Primoz, I'm still right about heavier tire casings and softer compound. Fight me. Most power-based training plans emphasize...

4/29/2026 12:34pm I wrote this on Pinkbike but will crosspost here to as I firmly believe ABS should not be involved in WCDH. I'm all for innovation in DH and I am absolutely fine with electronics in suspension but I strongly believe that ABS has no place in competitive DH. Braking ability and threshold braking are massively important skill that do separate riders. Having a system that would theoretically allow a rider to just full pull brake but not lock the wheels would be a huge advantage on most tracks and certainly would for low grip tracks or conditions. Formula One as...

4/29/2026 12:33pm Hmm. Do I get to decide when it’s a sustained steep or recovery is necessary? Cuz I spent like an hour yesterday desperately clicking my gravel bike’s shifter in search of an even lower gear. I’m old, been drinking too much beer and eating Trader Joe’s peanut butter cups, and now I gotta deal with the knowledge that I have suboptimal gearing? Eff it

4/29/2026 7:11am 29er rear wheel and 30t chainring with 10t on cassette with a max comfortable cadence of 95 rpm will give a top speed of 25 mph. When are you ever pedaling when going faster than 25mph on a trail bike, and will require a larger chainring? I appreciate the lower possible gearing of a 30t for slow tech climbs or ridiculously steep fire roads on the edge of traction. There is no reason to go larger except for being a DH racer, XC racer, or having too big of an ego.

4/26/2026 5:13pm Another benefit is the new hub is that it has damn near zero drag similar to the WRP kit. Seems like a win win.

4/26/2026 4:04pm I've just placed an order for the base Sidekick. The price is too tempting, thank you for the note.

4/26/2026 4:02pm Had my first ride on the EX 1700 today, DT Swiss’ new alu wheel that comes with the chain device installed. It cost £400 for the full wheel at RRP which feels like quite a fair price. It felt really great, the bike almost felt like it floated under me, my friend noted that my rolling speed seemed high. It’s quite a chain slappy bike and the device has definately reduced that on the small chunk, but it still slaps on proper hits. One odd thing that may be unrelated is that the suspension felt too soft, I even had...

4/26/2026 4:54am We are never going to get the adecuate thread, compound, casing and diameter tire ever again. It is hard already to find some trail rear 27.5 tires "you ride mullet, you are rad as hell, you need 1500gr tires" - the industry thinks. Multiply that by 4. Rest of the bike - components will be fine, but tires... Not a chance.

4/25/2026 3:16am I get the sentiment of what you're saying... but I would contend that the avinox motors have throttles... you just operate them by moving your feet. 460w of output with 25w of input, 800w of output with 100w of input and max power being delivered at 160w of rider input, is not pedal assist. It is pedal driven throttle assist.

4/24/2026 10:57am I was really excited about this but with the new price on the base E13 Sidekick hub I will probably go that direction. Hard to beat a $250 hub that's ready to go.

4/23/2026 1:42pm Having ridden bikes from several major brands, my SC Megatower has easily been the best I’ve owned when it comes to product support, parts availability, and clear, reliable customer service. I used to make fun of people who had an SC, but after dealing with repeated warranty issues on other bikes, I get it now. The Mega is a sick bike, the VPP suspension rides great, but honestly, it’s the overall ownership experience that really sets Santa Cruz apart. I'm in the market for a shorter travel ripper, and SC is at the top of the list, even if it's...

4/23/2026 10:39am It the Bosch vs Avinox regulatory/sustainability approach simply a matter of regional company culture? Bosch being German is used to dealing with the EU environmental and product regulation. I imagine they have some consideration for sustainability of the product category and the perception of the regulatory bodies. Avinox/DGI is Chinese and operating in their "regulatory" environment. The Chinese tech approach seems push out product with the highest possible specs with the lowest cost, leveraging the huge production capabilities and leaving the consumer to figure out if it's legal, sustainable or ethical in their region. If the product saturates the market...
