5/7/2025 8:11pm It's blatantly obvious that Lewis just straight up copies prestigious products with the objective of selling them to people who love the looks/bling factor of the absolute high-end stuff but don't want to pay for it. The structural integrity of the design has nothing to do with it.

5/1/2025 11:53am That would be a crazy tooling/fixturing setup to machine that from a billet if that's the case. My bet is that its cast then machined to provide the necessary tolerances and surface finish. Either way I would really like to see a video of the machining in action!

4/30/2025 4:19pm LOL! My hydration packs go years between cleanings [actually, I never clean them out, as I get a new pack every 3-5 years, which has a bladder in it, so...]. I also never put anything in there other than tap water. 🤷

4/18/2025 7:16am I originally posted a longer comment here but deleted it it read too much like a blog post, and I figured most folks wouldn't be into it. Still, I stand by the analysis, so if anyone’s curious (or wants to subject themselves to it), you can read it here: https://jeffbrines.com/2025/04/17/why-did-revel-maybe-go-bankrupt/ For context: $8M at 8% interest is $640K annually. That’s a serious cost (even if its a "spike" in the debt due to inventory or other reasons)—especially if you're carrying ~30 employees spread across continents. Even assuming $2K in gross profit per bike (which they likely weren’t making), you’d need...

4/8/2025 7:26am It is going to be a problem for sure. First retailer email I've seen on it (NB: I don't think ProBike Supply is going to be unique here so it is not about them mentioning it).

4/7/2025 6:27pm 1. @jeff.brines I was going to suggest Pinkbike classifieds but I saw you post it. You could combine that with Buycycle, TPC and some others I guess. Either way, great start. 2. I’m not an economist but I liked a lot of what Josh Poertner was talking about on the latest Marginal Gains podcast as it made a lot sense...

4/7/2025 10:18am In the meantime, I have an incoming factory order of a couple thousand mtb pants that are going to be hit with an additional 26% tariff, for 53.9% total import tax. India. That would be all fine and good, if: 1: I thought consumers would be wiling to pay 26% more. LOL. 2: Tariffs would hold at 53.9%. They won't, so I'll be in a permanent hole on this year's inventory. These import taxes will roll away within a few months. Businesses need a predictable environment in which to operate. If I knew the tariffs would actually be permanent and...

4/7/2025 8:00am Considering the market opened down 6% I feel its probably a good idea for me to release this little app. Its a good place to watch how the publicly traded companies in the bike, outdoor, powersports or "outdoor adjacent" space are performing through this shit show. Few thoughts... URL: www.otherhours.com -The name isn't great. I just had that domain so I used it. -All quotes are delayed; I am using the Yahoo Finance dataset which isn't great (but is free). I'm also using FRED for the CPI/yield stuff. I would not rely on this to trade or anything, but it...

4/4/2025 1:55pm I noticed that DVO has already started doing that to warn non-US customers as well. So, yeah, happening on both sides.

3/24/2025 9:48pm If it is anything like replacing the TQ screen it takes about 3 min and zero skill. I would be surprised if it is much different.

3/14/2025 11:21am This is a little over the top, no? Did gravel hurt you? I agree it's a bummer that we have little domestic coverage, but have you looked at the economics of such coverage? I have been so happy with my paid subscription to Escape Collective and will continue to pay the cost of less than a new set of tires to support true journalism in the bike space(no dig vital). While I still subscribe to MTB magazines, the writing is unfortunately subpar, and EC is a much better investment, IMO. They also just hired another American mtb journalist to cover...

3/3/2025 5:41pm As long as you don't wear a team uniform and draw attention to yourself almost nobody notices, especially on work days. I rode Digit prototypes around Laguna for years and nobody noticed. That all changed when I added stickers, started telling the story, and wearing a logo jersey.

2/23/2025 10:16pm I used the gen1 Motion Instruments setup quite a bit, and both agree and disagree. Strictly chasing numbers on DAQ is stupid and won't make the bike feel good. But using it to get the suspension balanced front/rear is great (especially a couple years ago when manufacturer settings seemed pretty far off). Also, it was really great way for me to help identify what each setting did in terms of ride feel (sometimes that would overlap, which was also good to know because sometimes I didn't want to change one thing but still needed to change another). For example, getting...

2/4/2025 9:15pm From what I can gather, almost all D2C and online fulfillment will eventually be consolidated into that massive warehouse in SLC they picked up roughly a year or so ago. Along with many other things like all warranties, wheel/suspension services, and their internal schooling. As for all the well wishes…thank you. I’ve been turning wrenches for almost 20 years, and this is the first time I’ve had the rug pulled out from under me. I’ve already poked my head around locally and pinged some friends and things don’t look horribly bleak, so I got that going for me…which is nice.

az2au Added a reply to Front DH Tyres Accurately Timed: Kryptotal vs Assegai vs Magic Mary vs Vigilante vs Plus+
1/28/2025 7:39am I think this conclusion is both fascinating and so logical that it annoys me that I hadn't at least considered it. I know I have a set of Krypototals that feel so fast but the times don't align with the feel. I hadn't considered that it feels like I'm cornering faster because I was already going slower coming into the...

1/28/2025 7:35am I think the other tyres are more draggy, but can't make up this time loss through the corners. I guess if you are losing time on every straight the emphasis is on the rider to make this up in the corners, which seems to be asking too much as the Vigilante corners great as well. Assegai feels epic because you approach the corner slower (more drag) which makes everything easier, but this feeling is misleading.

1/28/2025 7:35am I did A-B-A testing on each day aiming to get in 5 quality laps before swapping tyre, then 5 laps, swapping back again and another 5 laps. Timing was done by picking the exact GoPro frame where I crossed a specific feature on the trail, e.g. tree, rock, post etc so that I could get accurate timing to 1/60th sec and construct a perfect lap taking the best from each sector. The results often surprised me and I think "feel" can be misleading. The Assegai for example felt epic, but in the data it is slower in every sector.

az2au Added a reply to High vs. Low Tire Pressures: Which Is Faster?
1/24/2025 6:50am Absolutely excellent post. Obviously you're correct in that it isn't statistically valid across all variables but I do think it is thorough enough to draw a valid conclusion given the outside testing and holistic work that likely led to the an initial hypothesis of slower being faster as a general rule (because the lack of learning/repeated runs needs to allow...
Between The Tape Liked a forum topic High vs. Low Tire Pressures: Which Is Faster?
1/24/2025 6:41am We all know the theory: lower tire pressures mean more grip, and higher pressures roll faster. But when it comes to real-world speed, which one really wins? I set out to answer this with 30 timed runs down the same track. â—¾ The Experiment Two sets of tire pressures were chosen for my 88kg (194lbs) weight: 25/28 psi (front/rear) for the higher pressures and 18/20 psi (front/rear) for the lower pressures. These pressures maintain a consistent 0.9 front-to-rear ratio, with the high pressures aligning with recommendations such as those from E13 . After three warm-up laps, each tire pressure setup...
