I know we talked about this earlier, but we weren’t completely sure it was RMU. I’ve now received an email from them with this picture, so we can confirm it is their bike. It looks like it’s launching on May 1st.

I think a downtube experiences tension and compression, but I think for the majority of impacts its experiencing them as a compression event. That's part of the reason why roadbikes can have such tiny toptubes and still need such huge downtubes. The early 2010's TCR is a great example of this extreme difference in tube sizes: Here's my caveman understanding of those forces (not an engineer): But I don't even think that compressive force is the main reason downtubes need to be stiff. I think the main reason is that it connects contact points. It's the most direct line between...

Engineers at Scott must be going insane after finding out Specialized has beaten them at making the most complicated MTB to service, the next Gambler will have 32 pivots in retaliation

Kind of hilarious that the marketing line is that "you don't have to deal with the complications of a normal idler" - like this isn't the world's most complicated bike 😂 I think the highgear thing is cool but the design of the frame around the bottom bracket seems a bit awkward. Even with the frame protection I don’t like those thin-ish carbon edges. The fully open linkage area is also a concern - yes mud can get in and out, but in UK winter conditions all of those interior surfaces are going to get wrecked by any fine dirt...

While I’ll never own one, I have to give credit to specialized for creating this. It’s giving me nostalgia vibes from the late 90’s/early 00’s when there was a lot of weird and wacky experimentation in DH. The fact that after 3+ years of development, this is an actual production frame (regardless of cost) is pretty cool.

I want to see Shimano release something developed from their 2019 internal "gearbox" patent. It had an even higher output shaft position and would make high-pivots easier to pull off without an idlers.

Alright, as you guys know Im a little bit of a tard. Can someone explain why the hell this bike has like 4 chain rings? At the end of the day the suspension compresses and it rolls down hill. So why go through so much when the team would probably still win just as much on the old Demo? This bike truly gives me Halo Car production feeling. I think thats what Specialized is hoping for. Then to have a trickle down effect when everyone buys the other models.

Do you know anything about possible updated batteries with higher density? More curious than anything as unless it was a substantial upgrade in density of > 25% I wouldn't bother. And that assumes it's even backwards compatible.
