9/3/2024 9:35pm I don't want to REALLY derail this thread...but about 15 years ago I worked as an engineering consultant and ultimately spun off a small company to develop vibration based energy harvesters that were essentially tuned mass dampers. The damping was electromechanical, and tuned both with hardware and software. Our secret sauce and patent material was a mechanical means to decouple the frequency of the harvester from the input source...it could be very efficient with a wide range of input excitation frequencies. They never made much power, though...you could take a measurement or send a low power signal, but charging a...

9/3/2024 9:32pm My guesses on this: Benoit - definitely moving, since Dorval is folding. Consistent podium threat, so a good buy for a team chopping & shopping. One possibility would be Canyon - they had a deal with Thibaut before that blew up last year, so we know they're interested in a top DH rider and had budget. Either that or MucOff Commencal, who seem to have unlimited budget. Loris - he'd be my other bet as someone Canyon would have been talking to, or else the obvious Max Commencal hookup. So between Benoit & Loris, they could both go either way...

9/3/2024 9:29pm There's a lot more to the CounterShox than going to a hardware store and picking up parts. Think about the millions of combinations of springs and weights, rattle noises, fork mounts, ect. I suspect there's more going on with their product than springs and weights. I've tried it on a motocross bike and DH bike and was really surprised/happy with the results. I think the price isn't for everyone and the added weight isn't for everyone. I bought them because I'm interested in trying new parts, but it's going to be hard to ride without them now.

9/3/2024 9:29pm They're an honest company. The tech isn't expensive at all. As @TheSuspensionLabNZ noted, you could McGyver one with an Ohlins green spring, a 600g mass and a tube and some rubber for vibrations, forget a mountain bracket just zip tie that sucker on. Charging $500 just means someone else will move in and undercut you and make you look like an idiot and lose all sales.

9/3/2024 8:44am Not sure why you're getting downvoted... you can probably jury rig a dynamo/USB bank combo to charge your AXS batteries on the road, and I bet bikepackers are doing just that, but a SRAM native, plug and play, sleek and integrated, trail rider friendly option seems like a no brainer.... but it'd have wires, which is off brand. I think that and the limited market for range anxiety paranoid type folks is your biggest obstacle to go to market. Everyone else can just carry an extra battery. Jockey wheel charging is far fetched... you don't need a ton of watts...

9/2/2024 3:47pm Brook has done all the world cups this season. He hasn’t qualified for the finals yet. https://www.rootsandrain.com/rider3062/brook-macdonald/results/ Brook wasn’t chosen to represent NZ at the world champs as he wasn’t one of their top riders.

9/1/2024 11:24pm One thing I don't understand with race coverage (applies to RB, WBD and whoever broadcast this event) is why on runs with reduced coverage they show the same part of the track over and over again. The cameras are all set up, why can't they show different parts of the track as different riders are coming down. It'd be far more interesting than seeing the same sections repeatedly. Is it just down to lazy direction? Imagine you were a new viewer tuning in to your first race, just to spend the first hour watching riders hit the same sections of...

8/31/2024 9:04am Anyone else surprised that the French jerseys are legal? They’re very clearly the same fit and at least similar material to the XC jerseys. I don’t have any issues with it, just curious where the UCI actually draws the line.

8/30/2024 8:16pm This diagram (taken from Analysis techniques for racecar data acquisition by Jorge Segers) shows the level of vibration passed through when comparing 2 parts of the system (it is simplified for theoretical purposes). 1 on the y-axis means the size/displacement of the vibration output is equal to the input (ie rolling slowly over a large bump, the vehicle rises the same amount as the wheel). A value greater than one happens around the natural frequency where the input gets amplified (movement at the chassis is larger than the bump). Red line = body of the vehicle bouncing on the suspension...

8/30/2024 8:12pm Yeah thats a long term project I am slowly collecting data on....there is a huge difference between casing and compounds. Measuring the force vs displacement curves tells you the change in spring rate and damping from different rubber, and changing spring rate will have a proportional change to frequency Blue line is a Conti Kryptotal DH tyre (note:29") at 23 and 25psi Red line Maxxis DH maxx grip 2.4 x 27.5"@ 23psi Yellow line Maxxis EXO Maxx Terra 2.4x27.5" @ 26psi The gap between the lines is an indication of damping, the EXO has a softer rate and less damping...

8/30/2024 3:38pm Do you have any data, or knowledge, on how casing construction, rubber durometer, or inserts affects the tire frequency? I would imagine it could shift things a similar amount as air pressure on its own, but I really have no idea. I do think that there likely is a measurable effect because some tires generally feel more “dead” than others...

8/30/2024 3:30pm I’ve been running a CounterShox on my bike for a month or so. I’ve also tested in a motocross bike. On my DH bike I have one mounted to my seattube and fork. Heavier on the fork, lighter in the middle of the bike. Feels like a good balance from wheel to wheel. The countershox is set up in a way that dampens square edge and braking bumps the most. Think sharp high frequency spikes. Jumping the bike has less pop and is super stable off the lip. Really mellows out the kick. There are negatives, on the fork it...

8/30/2024 1:39pm I'm with the comments, if only a photographer or two could go around the pits doing 30s interviews, then they could play them over their photos in some kind of slideshow. If they have nice photos but no audio, then just play the same muzak track for about 15 years. I can't believe no one has tried this before.
