Saves money in a lot of ways, especially molds. So yeah, kinda smart.

Why limit it to your own team? Rider is leading your guy by a bunch, send out the disposable staff member.

I'm completely on-board for that. Maybe the bike has to be cleaned by a 3rd party so no changes can be made? Maybe the rider has to do it? Or maybe that's the metaphorical (and literal) weight on the other side of the scale of justice? Maybe a rider can take a reride with all the new knowledge from getting a run at the track but they're also stuck with any disadvantages that could come from that first look. What I'm trying to come up with is a way to make sure there is no extra advantage to the rerun...

Apologies for the double post. I recall a story once told by an American craft brewer (who I don't recall...): "If a bottle of your beer costs you 25c to make, why am I paying $5 for it?" "Because making the first bottle cost me $1 million".

part of the problem is that far too many people have the mindset "it only costs x to make why is it being sold for 3x?" without understanding that products don't just manifest themselves out of the ether ready for consumer sale. this isn't limited to the bike industry, either.

Fuck those cranks. There's SUCH a good structural reason why holes in cranks are a bad idea, with the exception of the sram cranks. The reason that all those 5dev cranks break despite not being very lightweight is 100 level shit, and I hate that the mtb industry is stupid enough to entertain it. A 2 dimensional truss structure is fucking terrible in torsion, and most of the crank arm sees a LOT of torsion. Then you've got all the stress concentrations with all the internal corners, and that multiplies your max stresses by a lot again. The reason why...

this press release i just received seemed pretty tech but maybe it belongs in the geometry thread. i'll start here... I am reaching out to you because I believe your audience would be interested in our company's launch in early May and the two new products we're launching with, the Cardio Speeder and the Super-E. These are the first-ever "procumbent flying position" electric bikes on the market. The procumbent flying position, a new riding position invented by Martoni CEO, Marty Williams, is a posture that combines ergonomic riding with speed. On a procumbent bike, there is no saddle; riders step...

Some of you never rode when we had no clutches so the loose, flopping chain smashed against every part of your aluminum bike and the fork knocked in the 1 1/8th head tubes and then echoed through your monocoque frame and it shows. I can barely hear my current bike compared to the 3rd grade marching bands on wheels we used to ride pre-2012. I didn't even know you could hear what your tires were doing for the first 10 years I rode.

Ok everyone's requests are reasonable and potentially possible to make. But this isn't possible at all, ever.

The interesting question is what are we really feeling? 430mm stays (about the shortest I can think any modern-ish lively quick trail bike having) vs 460mm (which is about as long as you can adjust a geometron to) is only 7% longer. so measuring from the BB probably isn't the key thing. Kind of like with stems - steerer centre...

I’m sure there’s all sorts of oddly specific rules. Neff got fined for wearing a coat once - I think in the short track where the women have to wait until the end of the men’s race for the podium.

are the rules so specific that a rider has to face the crowd? show up w/ back to crowd so there's not a single usable podium photo

I think there's a thing in ze rules which make podium attendance mandatory. The fine's probably more than the prize money.
