Slightly off topic, but is there a zero offset (or close to it) DM stem that one can actually purchase? Rulezman has an 18mm version, but it's $300+ to get one sent to the US. That's just nutty.

I know I've seen them on WC DH bikes recently, but can't find one anywhere. Like the ones Cesar Rojo made long ago....

It's definitely pricey, but it is a very nice stem. I did the same research you did and didn't find anything close. The e-moto options all had me a bit nervous as they were from totally unknown companies.

Look back 1 post, marz stem is $150, could be an option.  I had one on a 1st gen shiver, worked well and you can adjust it to 4 lengths including 0.

Even if you drilled out the threads on your upper crown and somehow fit a wrench past the headtube, I don't think the bolt spacing is the same as the current standard

As you know by the profile pic I can't let the past go (unless its to do with an ex girlfriend)

Azonic were producing a 0 degree stem back in 1998 a friend of mine had one on a cannondale super v XC bike that was set up for Downhill you don't know what a short toptube is and scary geometry is until you have rode a bike like that!

Then Mondraker had a go at it back in 2012

I love how forgetful people are when it comes to industry

Those early stems didn't catch on since reach numbers weren't there yet.. Mondraker was ahead of the game at that point, designing the frame around the short stem, but the public in general may not have been ready for it. If I recall correctly, they also had a pretty short rear end  and part of what help weight the front wheel is the longer stays..

A short direct mount stem would be great to design as a first CAD project, and learning CAD is fun and extremely useful. A regular stem would be a little more tricky to model but still within reach. Copy over most of the dimensions from a stem you currently own, as long as you don't try to make something ultra-light and skinny you'll be fine. Machining cost would probably be less than what Rulezman charges for his stems too, plus you now know 3D modelling as a bonus.

If you're based in the UK, have a chat with North Bucks Machining (who machined the Empire Cycles CNC bike frame back in the day). I've used their services a few times for random stuff like custom brake mounts, bits of camera hardware, custom tools etc and they're fantastic. Plus you can go look at the Empire CNC bike and some other cool bike/CNC eye-candy when you collect your bits.

That guy continues to strive for the asshole of the year award.
Any validity of his opinion has been removed by that kneepad/short gap and that’s even before we talk about his “low IQ” dismissal of everyone who dares to disagree with him 😂

I was genuinely intrigued and was thinking of buying one of his stems because the BMB ones are so damn expensive, but an advertisement that calls people who disagree "haters and low IQ" immediately kills any chance of sending money his way.

The Rulezman stem could be interesting on the right frame.. Plus you could reverse it and get a bit of the BMB RR Stem feel.. To me, it seems the Rulezman would be closest to a moto, bars just ahead of the steering axis. The RR stem to favor counter-steering like a street bike..

True.. I just found it interesting how Reece really noted as being more noticeable on the RR stem. Much like riding a street bike where you really push on the inside bar to turn..

We need a “traveling” RR stem so more people can get a feel for the difference

I think it’s interesting Reece is pushing all of the novel ideas now, but when he was winning races he was on a typical cockpit setup.

I mean it’s a dead season for racing, but you still gotta chug out that content out - so nothings better than posting a ragebait video that will resonate…

You understand how professional contracts work, right?

I really think he would profit a lot from some sort of "try before you buy" model. If you've got something that's way different from the norm, but with easily perceivable benefits, this can help you get more customers. No one likes blindly shelling out 400$ for a thing with dodgy aesthetics and uncertainty as to how it feels on the trail...
