Neu 36 air spring set up is a helluva smart way to work around DT's patent/Buttercups. Do wonder what will happen as those elastomers degrade, though that may be me overthinking things again.

...and wonder if you can throw this air spring in the previous gen 36's?

Some mixed responses here. I called Fox sales this morning and they also said they were not backwards compatible. Then someone on pinkbike commented that they work for Fox and say that they are.

Someone on Pinkbike said they work for Fox… I won’t hold my breath just yet.

Mixed messaging from other media outlets. Flow saying in their video that it is not, while Fanatik has a response quoting someone directly from Fox saying that it is. Probably too early to hang your hat on any one response as I'm sure their sales&marketing team is getting up to speed with the new product.

I wonder if fox will give a free upgrade to the new shock for people who keep blowing up the old one? (even after the 24’ ‘fix’)

Pretty finished article on Matt Walker’s pivot - he’d covered this shock up with a pivot cycles tag in an insta story earlier this week

That would be nice but I doubt it from the amount of X2s on sale out there. I hope they don't keep cycling clients between shocks that blow despite claimed fixes.

Here are some better pictures from the latest promo video that were posted in the Ari group.  The riders in the video confirmed its a Timp Peak, so it must be the new Timp.

Looks like a Bosch CX or SRAM Powertrain - Hopefully the former!  Thankfully, the downtube girth indicates at least an 800 WH battery.  Down with the 600 WH trend!

How has nobody mentioned the 32x2.4" Maxxis Aspen tires at Taipei Bike Show?

As a 6'2" dude, I would absolutely try a 32er. Or if nothing else, a 32/29 mullet.

Agreed on the spec choice.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume that the new air spring (i) removes all binding and (ii) doesn't explode.  What do you think about also making the fork stiffer?  In other words, if the flex didn't make the fork bind, do you think we'd like the flex?  Or are the bushings still going to bind?  Or do forks really need to be a stiff as possible for steering precision and such?

The new X2 air can looks very similar to the SJ15 Genie.  Wonder if there’s anything similar going on inside or just new similar architecture.

Both air cans are referred to as EVOL LV in the specs.

Example specs from an X2 and Genie…

2026, FLOAT X2, F-S, K, Parallel Rzy, No Lever, Evol LV, 250, 75, CS70, RL60, Rezi B80, No Decal

2025_24, FLOAT GENIE, F-S, K, 2-Pos Adj, EVOL LV, Specialized, SJ Pro/SW (S2-S6), 210, 55, SSC003, SSR01, CML, 0.7 E, 0.2 S, 1x 0.4 X

Is it just me or does that rebound adjuster look even more awkward than the current model? Depending on your frame that could be almost inaccessible (e.g transition's)

Well this already seems to be pretty poorly managed.  One of the most common questions was always going to be "which of these new fangled parts can be installed in my old fork?", so to not have a clear answer in the info pack in anticipation is odd.

They want you to buy the entire fork, not just the $100 part that makes the biggest performance difference.

Bushings would still bind.

As for steering precision, that's mainly torsional stiffness. If you don't want it, go for an USD fork. People riding them mostly say it's a non-issue, some say they are unrideable. It really depends on what you like.
