Hello Vital MTB Visitor,
We’re conducting a survey and would appreciate your input. Your answers will help Vital and the MTB industry better understand what riders like you want. Survey results will be used to recognize top brands. Make your voice heard!
Five lucky people will be selected at random to win a Vital MTB t-shirt.
Thanks in advance,
The Vital MTB Crew
i'm also thinking about creaking CSUs being a reason not to go longer on the 36. not that it can't/didn't occur on the short travel versions, but the added stress / length certainly won't help things.
Pretty sure the rumor was 1.5 and 1.8... and 20mm.
While it's nice that the lack of choice ended up working for you, that's not the reality for many people.
Makes that current Stumpy 15 deal tempting
The MTBR Ibis forum had someone who spotted the new Ibis Ripmo AF frame in Santa Cruz, one black and one raw alloy. Interested to see what changes they make (if any) compared to the V3 Ripmo carbon.
There’s masses of choice for us.
The new slightly less expensive Intend fork has just added another one… and that just in forks.
This thread and its many many tangents is proof of how spoiled we are
It makes sense - while the Ripmo and Ripley aren't too terribly outdated by any means, they are getting "long in the tooth" by bike industry standards. Also, it makes sense that they'd want to update to the new design language of the HD6, carbon Ripmo, and carbon Ripley.
The sales on the prior gen stuff is the biggest hint in my opinion. Sure, the market is in a tough spot to begin with, but the value the AF models offer at 25-35% off is really solid. They had a good number of new RIpley AF SLX bikes marked down to $1999 on the final day of Sedona MTB Festival last weekend. I'm by no means in the market for another bike, but if I wasn't in the middle of building a carbon Norco Fluid for my fiancé, I may have left the festival with one for her.
What a joke. A kick starter for a rim that won’t be as good as Anything dt does
Slayer is relatively new.
None of dt's alloy rims are offset or have angular holes drilled.
So they're at least trying something different.
Why knock a small company having a crack?
DT for sure has left to right orientation of drilled holes, not sure about back and forth. Maybe not 4d (I guess that's what 4d is, left, right and back, forth oriented), but definitely not drilled straight.
MTB spoke drilling holes and innovation 🙃
I'm gonna keep ex471-ing until DT stops production, it is the tried an true, gold standar for a reason. Assymetrical, 4d whatever ads no value. They are even the perfect width for gravity tires. Or are they?
Ryde have been doing angled drilling of aluminium rims for over a decade https://www.ryde.nl/technology/ it's nothing new.
Looks like Norco quietly dropped the new generation Sight VLT. Probably to keep up with Transition dropping the Regulator CX recently. 800 WH battery under 50 pounds? Very cool.

Rejoice at a company actually putting the big battery on the bike instead of 600wh + range extender = heavier than an 800wh internal. Of all the new bikes with the new Bosch stuff (Reuglator, Vala, who else am I missing?) The Trek Rail was the only one to have the 800wh. (enough juice to actually do a "self shuttle day")
They had it up on their website probably 2 months ago.
I’m not saying I browse the website every day to check on these things, but I don’t remember seeing full specs and models listed. 🤷🏻♂️
For those in Europe, the new Haibike AllMtn has an 800wh.
Orbea DH on FMD team camp? 🤔
Anyone hear anything about the new GT Force and Sensor? What are they gonna do with the frames now that they folded??
relabeled Jekyll and habit given the shared ownership of Cannondale/GT?
Intend being open with the carbon
Fair points
They're currently all sold out on their b2b for the majority of all their bikes. I think they're making a comeback with a stripped back line next year but we'll just have to wait and see.
I may ir may not have seen a something from someone, somewhere somehow with renders of the new Force and Sensor about 2 weeks before GT folded, and if the internet has taught me something in all its years is that if there’s a render, then somewhere there is a mold…
Okay the width thing. Never understood why rim widths past 27mm are advertised as good or better? They just feel like they have my resistance when climbing with no added benefit of actual grip. Like Im puzzled that companies like DT push the idea of needing a 30mm+ wide rim/wheel when their pro racers are running EX471s which I think is 25mm if Im not mistaken. Is it a durability warranty work around?
More initial grip Is a benefit of wide rims... suits alot of pinky riders because they ride upright and dont lean the bike lol
FWIW, Jack Moir is running EX1700 rims (laced to 240 hubs). If there's nothing shady going on (rebranded 471s for the sake of looks), he's running 30 mm rims.
Not to mention all the non DT pros are using 30mm rims, Enve, crank brothers, Reserve etc are all 30mm internal.
I do think 25-28mm is better, but only a handful of racers have access to them as most are using sponsors carbon rims that are 30mm for consumers.
Who is still run 471's other than specialized gravity?
Troy Brosnan does I think.
2026 Fox 36SL confirmed?
