It was the second or third weekend in September last year. Not sure if the double header or the nicer weather played a bigger role but attendance was much greater than this year’s edition. While there were still tons of people, the XC events certainly had quite a bit less attendance.

Holding snowshoe during the school year is going to impact attendance at such a remote event.

Yea, "aero doesnt matter in DH" .... but riders have their pajamas custom tailored to basically turn them into skin suits...... the big teams still do wind tunnel testing.... in-too-fast-to-pedal sections fast riders get into their "speed-tuck" position. But "aero doesn't matter". No one is claiming multiple second differences with small changes, but it's pretty silly to think that it can't account for fractions of seconds over a 4+ minute track with some wide-open, very fast 60kph sections.

I remember a conversation I had ~10 years ago with Martin Whitely about putting LEDs inside goggles to indicate splits. This was during the TFR days when they were definitely thinking outside the box a bit – doing things like warming their bikes up before runs to get the fluids to the right viscosity and messing around with aerodynamics. I'm surprised there hasn't been more emphasis on the latter in DH. Kerr might've been on the top box on Saturday if only his cables had been run through the headset, for instance.

I know aesthetics are subjective, but that Trek just isn't doing it for me. It looks like a lovechild between a GT and a Niner. Considering most of their bikes over the last few years have been fairly simplistic with clean straight lines it's taking my brain a minute to adjust to this one. I know the Trek engineers are much smarter than me and there is a thought-out reason for every aspect of the bike. Maybe it will grow on me...

I'm going to go out on a limb with this one...as a cliche American that has gone absolutely all-in on F1 because of Drive to Survive, Could Discovery/UCI/Secrete DH racing Cabal be trying to change the rules and qualifying in an attempt to resemble the structure of F1? Having fewer teams, and having them be the bigger factory teams makes it easier to follow for a casual/new viewer. Similarly, focusing the broadcast coverage on a smaller group of riders, 20-30, allows viewers to pick a couple of favorites and consistently root for them. It also lets Discovery more easily focus...
