Shapeshifter adds weight and complexity for what seems like minimal benefit. Nobody who cares about uphill efficiency is buying a 31 pound bike in the first place. The lower spec models are probably going to be pushing 35 pounds with pedals. No bike in this weight class is ever going to be a quiver killer, so why pretend?

Blowing it? If the sales volume doesn't make sense, they won't produce it. At 6'3.5" tall I very rarely see anyone at a bike park as tall as me. Most DH bikes still run 45-50mm stems, not the 35mm of trail bikes. Ends up usually around 10mm difference of reach and stem combined between DH and trail bikes. Not a big deal at all. Not to mention Specialized is almost always on the agility side of the spectrum when it comes to mountain bike fit.

Riding a 2017 Kona Operator (first year of 27.5) and I can relate to the sore feet at (my) pace in the chop. It's too bad they went with 29er and 148 hub, I've got a decent fork and wheelset I couldn't use anything from if I wanted to build up from a frame.

If you think that an enduro bike (any not Spé Enduro) goes down as well as a DH bike, either you never set a foot on a DH bike, or it was years ago.

so the 29 / 27.5 combo seems to be legit. Finn just got 2nd at crankworx rotorua by .09 running it. brook won on 27.5 (so rad...brook looks f'ing focused!) and brannigan 3rd on 29 (i think he's on 29...also freaking rad to see him back in the mix). loic front flatted so we don't know how we would have done. oh, finn wins "sickest foot-out turn of 2019 so far" in his race run too! i'm sure replays will surface at some point.
