There's no scenario where imperial works 'better' than metric. More likely they have a warehouse full of imperial sized shocks that they need to unload.

Shapeshifter adds weight and complexity for what seems like minimal benefit. Nobody who cares about uphill efficiency is buying a 31 pound bike in the first place. The lower spec models are probably going to be pushing 35 pounds with pedals. No bike in this weight class is ever going to be a quiver killer, so why pretend?
