Try opening it less, I usually aim for about half a turn at most. I think you might be pulling in air around the thread when you open 1.5 turns.

What I find confusing about the new Stumpjumpers is they offer it in a coil version with a 27.5 wheel and they've corrected geo for the smaller wheel using the upper link just like with the previous Stumpjumper, which significantly reduces progression. So the most linear bike in the entire lineup comes with a coil.

Stumpy alloy is massively heavier. Thats a bummer. Was hoping it would be a 1lb weight penalty, but looks to be almost 4lbs! S4 carbon weight = 6lb 4oz, where S4 allow = 9lbs 8oz.

i think there is a thread of MTBR about this. Mavens are sick, but 2 of my 3 sets had junk in the lines and played up with the wandering bite point... it was pumping up then suddenly move to the normal spot - they were bled/setup by 4 different people(3 shops and me) - did all the bits and pieces correctly etc - 3rd set is good. - both those 2 sets were refunded. This is exactly why I decided to keep my TS Maxima. They felt exactly as you described. "Squishy lever" doesn't mean much when you have so much power and control on tap with little effort. Some people get too obsessed with a firm bite point

My saints are dying (RIP) they've been good but have always needed a bit of up keep. I find that all shimano brakes seem to be loosing oil and needing to be topped off during the lifetime of pads. Whats up with this design they always seem to need more oil. I am thinking of moving to some hope v4 with 223 rotors. I had the tech 3's a long time a go and they felt goo but lacked some serious power. I am curious if I am going to regret moving over to a brake that might not have...

while i agree that many riders often have "more" bike than they need for a given trail, i'm not sure if this comes from a desire to be "overbiked" or just that many riders have one bike. they need it to cover many different kinds of terrains and difficulty levels - which results on inherently being overbiked on some trails.

The constant whinging that tech rumours is getting derailed is kind of annoying and derailing in itself. In my opinion its OK to discuss the tech rumour or current happenings for at least a page or two, and then they generally dissipate or move to other threads. If a legitimate large rumour or release happens it naturally takes over the thread anyway, they're discussing damping and leverage because there isn't a lot happening right now. Plus, Primoz, Teamrobot and Cascade make up some of the best and most knowledge members and are creating a valid discussion. For better or worse...
