I heard nothing but good reviews from people willing to take a chance on them, a local xc smasher got the long travel bike and said he was crushing some uphill Strava personal bests on the 150 Marin. But I think in cycling form and function are often on equal ground. It needs to work well and it needs to look like current trends. Even the Tantrum bikes reviewed well if I remember correctly (maybe I'm wrong) but I've only seen one locally on a buy sell. It just didn't look right to people even if the concept is good...

Lucent Liked a forum topic What happened to neck braces in DH?

8/10/2022 4:00am
At one point it seemed to be pretty common to see a small-ish percentage of WC DH riders and every-day park riders rocking a Leatt or similar neck brace. Now that I'm on the other side of 40 but still wanting to hit the bike park every now and then, my mind is wondering a.) if I should dust mine off for park days, but also b.) why we don't see them anymore on the WC circuit. Sidenote: It's been 7+ years since I've used my Leatt, do these have a shelf life like bike helmets? I would assume not...*shrug*

so finn won on a prototype bike... It's clearly fast, It uses a upper FSR link with some sort of chainstay linkage driven shock. i feel like they are trying to make the bike Have a similar idea to the Stumpjumper EVO - where the wheel moves rearward for the first 30% of the travel but then suddenly moves forward... This would allow it to be "unloaded" and move rearward initially to help the wheel get out of the way but then move forward on the backside of the "hit" so it pumps really well. with little anti squat deep...

ahhhhhh, so just a crazy coincidence that a Junior rider has the exact same race number as Connor and they both ride a Forbidden. I'll happily retire from sleuthing RAW videos now.

Geez, is it that hard? Loic has been running that setup for a whole year at least. The shock -and in some venues, also the fork- has a pedal and an open mode, he can engage any of them with the push of a button on the handlebar. The main reason for that big ass green button is for him to avoid messing up with it and involuntarily push it while traversing the rougher parts of a track. Previously he had a tiny red LED on top of it. I guess he figured out he needed something easier to spot.

I remember a conversation I had ~10 years ago with Martin Whitely about putting LEDs inside goggles to indicate splits. This was during the TFR days when they were definitely thinking outside the box a bit – doing things like warming their bikes up before runs to get the fluids to the right viscosity and messing around with aerodynamics. I'm surprised there hasn't been more emphasis on the latter in DH. Kerr might've been on the top box on Saturday if only his cables had been run through the headset, for instance. Wink

He seems to be running some electronically actuated rear shock from Öhlins, so I wouldn't be surprised if the green light indicated the system is active.

I'm more in the opposite camp. With carbon you can finely tune the structure through layup, making it flexy in one direction, but not the others. Thus engineered flex and all. With metals that's a bit harder, due to their properties (isotropic, the same in all directions for all intents and purposes, while composites are anisotropic and thus distinctly strong in tension along the fibers, not so much in other directions), so you can only shape the 'joint' to have the flex there. An example of this would be a thinner neck to make it less stiff there. When it...

When looking at the fact that Greg was in the Discovery promo video, combined with him distancing himself from the riders union, I think there a strong likelihood that he'll be involved with Discovery/ESO going forward.

I think the issues with treks current bikes is they were going for a rocker link that sat a bit more forward that didn't really work for having a current gen seat tube angle. As everyone mentioned when the slash came out, it was a slacker effective seattube angle than expected on a modern bike. And it's actual physical angle affects the rider position a lot because of how far back it reaches. For them to get the rocker position they wanted and the seattube angles, they needed to seperate the two and this seems to be the best looking...
