All data pulled from the UCI website (https://www.uci.org/riders/mountain-bike-riders-teams/1V5hGPnEvXzbIqkjU…). The number of teams peaked in 2023 with a total of 184 (128 standard, 56 elite). 2024 saw the second highest number of teams on record with 163 (112 standard, 51 elite). The bike bubble bursting was already beginning to have an effect going into the 2024 season, even with the upcoming Olympic games. This write-up is a long one that starts with some snark. Sorry. Here's the thing about words: They mean whatever they mean in the context of their use. To quote Run DMC: "Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good." Just because a word looks a lot like much of "endurance" and a given definition of the word outlined it as "a ... race ... to test endurance" doesn't mean that the mtb race discipline named "Enduro" has to directly reflect the English word enduro to the nth degree. If we're being strict about words does it have to test...

Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic or giving too much benefit of the doubt, but either way I cant see why the only option here is that WBD are gonna abuse their system. Seems to me that they have created a fuzzy window to make sure small teams with high profile riders like Gwin Racing can access World Cups, these teams likely having better budget and resources etc.. than a team made up of 8-10 low ranked riders. Whatever though, the party line in the forum is that everything WBD does is evil, any deviation from the party line gets...

I know negativity is cool and all in 2024/5, but this rule change or whatever you call it, is because previously, under UCI organisation teams were not allowed to sell merch from their pits. I think it was so the local organisers could make more money selling expo space to vendors etc... So it's basically a positive change... but ya.

there was no WC in Fort William in 2020 and 2021, the break was good. Press blurb says they want to get WC back in Fort William in 2026. Change is good

Couldn't agree more, so many people getting angry about misinformation and conjecture. World Cup racing has been in flux since it's inception. This is just the next change in a long line of changes. Seems to me that the main source of anger on the forums and comments sections is that it's no longer "free" to watch DH racing. But for those of use who have paid to watch the DH racing (especially the womens) has been some of the best ever. What I gather from this forum is that the World Cup should be free to enter for anyone...

I'm with the comments, if only a photographer or two could go around the pits doing 30s interviews, then they could play them over their photos in some kind of slideshow. If they have nice photos but no audio, then just play the same muzak track for about 15 years. I can't believe no one has tried this before.
