The Aventon Current seems like a very promising bike, somewhat comparable to the base model Amflow in design, spec, and price, but about 7lbs heavier. The weight doesn't make it a total non-starter in my mind though, as many people thought the Amflow was underbuilt, and the Aventon has a few key differentiators that, if they deliver in the real world, seem genuinely ground breaking to me! 1. Their motor has an IP67 rating, whereas most other brands are IP65 (or less). Water intrusion seems to be the most common cause of failure on ebike motors, and IP67 is really...

from Hans Rey about ebike development Link: https://hansrey.com/blog/ An Open Letter to the Bicycle Industry By Hans Rey To the leaders, builders, advocates, and riders who shape our industry, I’m writing because I care deeply about where bicycles—and electric bicycles—are headed. We are at a crossroads. The decisions we make about language, power limits, and definitions will determine whether Class 1 e-bikes remain accepted as bicycles—or get grouped with much more powerful machines that don’t belong in the same category. It’s time to define our language and it’s time to draw a line in the sand of when e-bikes become...

I’m not clear about the context of the negativity toward MTC in this post, but it’s my opinion that everything they have worked on in the Vail valley is fantastic and well built. I do know that some trails have been “sanatized” by the VVMTA which has ruffled feathers and MTC was not a part of - perhaps that is what was being referred to. Lee’s Way is an excellent example of a fairly old MTC build that is awesome to ride, provides true pitch, and is sustainably built. I would say MTC is one of the best trail builders...

It was during covid lockdown before I had the ability to charge with my camper van and campsites were closed. So I had to stretch the battery over a weekend and regulated the motor down to Eco 25 or 20 for the most part (can't remember exactly). So it was on light emtb level assistance and I'm a light rider.

Thanks for chiming in. Momentum came highly recommended by Flagstaff's top local riders, which is why we chose them.

I feel like I have to say something here. About 5 years ago, when I was the executive director of Southwest Idaho Mountain Biking, we hired Momentum Trail Concepts to build a DH trail for us. What Steve and crew did on Pick Your Poison was exceptional. I am unfamiliar with the concerns you've voiced about Eagle County, CO. But as someone who has run a trail org and who has thousands of hours building and maintaining trails myself, I would have zero hesitation to recommend MTC as a top notch trail builder.

I'd wait for the 25+ bosch version to go on sale and snag that. I basically paid half price for one... Having ridden several dji bikes at this point, the bosch gen 5 is still as good or better than the m1 dji, particularly for noise. Only downside is aesthetic of the downtube being built to accept the fat 800wh bosch battery. Great geo and kinematics on the crafty. Never dreamed I'd prefer to ride a 150mm rear travel e-bike at the bike park rather than any of my acoustic enduro bikes, but here we are.

Totally agree on the frame set ripoff. I have to ask what is the goal of this bike? Are you looking for light and fast or fun play bike? Or a bit of both? For pure speed the Mondraker Raze, Pivot Trialcat Lt are the fastest 130mm bikes you can buy. Closely followed by the V5 Ripley. Out of those 3 the Ripley can easily be built up or down to suit your needs. The Raze is way underrated but rides amazing. Light frame set. Forward geometry is legit. Framesets on sale. Headset cable routing kept me from buying one...

I have a prime, and its kinda a funny one. It's knocking on the door of all mountain, but it does pedal quite well. I feel like the next gen Phantom is going to be a very nice bike. Can't wait to see the Gen 4 Banshees!
