The Bruni interview I read the other day (in an ancient technology, paper magazine) sounded like hoping to be back by Les Gets was very optimistic compared to doctors opinions, and that this season being ruined made him consider retiring later than planned

First post/link was blocked? US Open weekend feels like the right time for a 30-year throwback to the classic NORBA National era. I’ve been slowly digitizing and archiving all our old 90s VHS tapes so this history doesn't get lost. Here’s the 1996 Deer Valley National broadcast on ESPN. My better half, Leigh Donovan, took the double win in Elite Women’s DH and Dual Slalom that weekend! It was an awesome event, though as the team wrench back then, I vividly remember we went through some wheels and the dust was pretty savage on fork seals.

9/14/2026 2:03pm Hot take after consuming all of the US open stuff. They need a vet pro class at all of the races. Make it an exhibition or just for fun. With so many of the legends hanging out / managing teams, I just want to see Sam rip corners and Peaty power wheelie out of every berm. Talk about driving engagement.

Aletha had a really scary scorpion crash on the rock gap drop into the berm. She was down for a while, seemed like she got the wind knocked out of her. I was honestly surprised she eventually got back on and finished up. Ana crashed in the same spot, got off easier but ended up through the tape below the berm. Skelton came up a little short and exploded her rear tire. Scarsi straight bossed the gap.

Race was super fun as a spectator. Kids had a great time. May not be the best track but some more Rocky Mountain/West coast races where you get to see top riders is awesome. Good vibes in the woods.

9/14/2026 11:44am Exactly, big whoop, who cares. Its pretty clear that the only people that consume mtb racing is the core audience. That core audience ain't tuning in to watch dudes in a suit.

This feels emblematic of WBD's failures to understand and effectively market the sport of mountain biking. More extensive live race coverage? Nah, let's create an awards show, because TV execs like awards shows. "The Golden Arrows," "The Summit," "The Globe"... gimme a break. I'm not opposed to WBD giving out some awards or recognition, but this all seems unnecessarily elaborate and self-congratulatory for an organization that just abandoned the elite tier of one of the sport's major disciplines.

What I've learned: Lug a 55 gallon trash can around to all races in your car/truck/mega-van Suck sealant into a hose & squeeze it out into a tiny little de-cored valve stem Live someplace sunny & warm at all times of day, week, month Have some form of fast DC charging air appliance nearby Purchase the perfect rim & tire combo at all times. Cost be damned Or.....: Make a Pepsi bottle air cannon Dump sealant in the side Use Gorilla Tape but don't tell your judgy friend. Buy any and everything on sale Keep frothy beverages on hand to...

9/7/2026 10:20pm For all you non compressor having people, I made one of these... ten years ago and it still works. Works better then a compressor, the joe blow charger pump, etc. Its higher flow and as a bonus you look like the unibomber https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/The-Hub,2/Joe-Barnes-DIY-Coke-Bottle-Tu…

I support my local bike shop even if the costs are a little higher sometimes. If we want to see the sport continue in the ways we want to see it continue, we have to help fund it. $10 for a broadcast is fine when I can spend $10 on a not-very-good mocktail. Skip a drink or two out at a restaurant and it's handled. I should drink less sugar, anyway.

9/3/2026 9:01am RE: Beyond Gravity This is fucking sick in several ways. While chasing money isn't any of the riders top priority it is rad to see a payout that isn't peanuts. Secondly, its cool to have a way to give back to the athletes. Additionally I already pay to watch the broadcast, but I doubt that any of my subscription $$$...

Worth noting- broadcast pricing is planned to start at ~$10 USD (depending on exchange rate at the time). This won’t be a normal race broadcast as you know it- we are building out a full show, and when racing goes live we’ll have 40+ cameras on course.
