I swapped out gx transmission/cassette for Gen 1 axs/xo DH which saved around 300gm I think, the difference was very noticeable. Same shock, same pressures, same tyres. Retrospectively, perhaps rebound could be sped up to counter the heavier setup, but seems like a bandaid solution I guess. I've had nothing but bother with transmission, it does shift awesome under load when it's running right. It's been interesting trying di2 wireless, I think it's the superior system. B-tension and more emphasis on micro adjustment (with greater range than sram) in inital setup seems like a better solution to me. Transmission cages...

I have had Classified hubs in for evaluation in 142 and 148mm applications. All that extra mass hanging off the rear wheel would suck, just like any other IGH. Also, the shifting isn’t exactly…. reliable.

All this talk about smaller batteries to reduce unsprung mass on the rear end of a DH bike is interesting, but I kind of chuckle when I remember within the last year there were World Cup racers were janking together auto water dripping setup thingys to their bikes to cool their brakes.

Anvl is dead. They have a stupid over stock on there stuff so it’ll be selling for a while but it’s gone

The thing about wheels is that they move on the suspension path, but also rotate. Spinning a wheel faster(sprinting) or spinning it slower(braking) results in a slower reaction with a heavier mass. Changing direction right/left left/right is also affected. For those of us not on a clock it may matter zero, but for the time equals money folks it could be a consideration.

I think in most cases the things that add weight normally add more performance than you lose from the increased mass, eg heavier/wider tyres. Also unsprung mass is going to play a bigger part at higher frequencies (more rapid changing direction) and our enemy friction is normally much bigger at that point! So 200g of unsprung mass doesnt matter too much when there is 4-5kg of excess friction in the system.

What do you mean by “relative strength of forces”? This sounds like a misunderstanding of the physics as play within suspension. The conversation around unsprung mass relates to the acceleration of the wheel when it impacts a bump, and this acceptation is directly tied to the mass of the object being accelerated. While anecdotally you may not have noticed a difference in the added weight, 500-1000g is substantial. The venn diagram overlap of "has enough money to mess around with expensive parts and has an expensive bike" and "does not own proper hex keys or a bike stand" is maddening.

Newer centerlines (A2 variants) are 2mm, they refer to them as rounded edges uci compliant etc. I'm not sure when the switchover happened but I've noticed them turning up more frequently on bikes.

Wasn't the suggestion from the pinkbike survey that there were only about 3 or 4 riders in enduro making decent money and you'd assume Moir would be one of those . He definitely ticks the box in terms of bringing more to a brand than just race results. Just thinking as well if possibly being based in Australia has anything to do with it . When you are putting together riders for a European only series adding in flights and then I assume accommodation costs must add up to a chunk of your probably already reduced budget.

Jack Moir is the biggest star of enduro racing. YT sucks!

Moir has a pretty solid social media presence and is a solid racer with a lot of people following his journey. I think he is a solid investment for any brand. The only problem might be the terms he is trying to get given the state of the industry. Does he deserve a big contract? yes, he does. There are probably just very few brands that have the budget to do that and they already have people filling that spot. If Moir can negotiate a contract that let's him get sponsors outside of the "factory sponsors" (like Brendog with Scott)...

Moir is one of the better riders as far as bringing a little more to the table.. But, with enduro being questionable combined with a lack of money and open spots, it's tough times..

Can I be honest, if I can't just click on one thread and read the entire conversation, I probably won't read the forum at all. I find this thread pulls me in and then when I have more time or I'm curious, I check out other threads. But without this main one, I wouldn't bother visiting vital. Wish it were different but I hope I'm at least helping by giving voice to some other people out there. I enjoy catching up on 6 pages of inane comments to find a nugget of cool rumors.
