10/11/2024 6:50am Big new today from Öhlins, as the Swedish suspension specialist is acquired by Brembo (from Tenneco). We reached out to Öhlins for comments regarding the future of MTB products under the new ownership, although it's obviously early days yet. They have informed us that for the time being, they are continuing to manufacture and support their products as per usual, with stable demand observed from their customer base. They also have new products in the pipeline that will be unveiled "over the coming months", so that all sounds like they will continue to build their presence on the MTB side...

10/10/2024 5:46pm They said last year in @sspomer 's excellent podcast with the WAO crew, that they were getting out of the frame game because they didn't make much on them once they finished making sure it was perfect. Dustin loved making it and they learned a lot but it wasn't worth continuing and they were doubling down on components.

10/10/2024 6:40am There were rumors that WeAreOne were leaving the frame building business due to financial troubles. Now it looks like their website doesn't have a menu item for bikes/frames anymore. https://www.weareonecomposites.com/ Also their wheels have been discount on and off 20% for almost the whole year.

10/9/2024 1:21pm That's right. They are trying the same approach as Cannondale's "FlexPivot" by encouraging crab-link design feel without the bearings. Most other flex pivot bikes have equal amount of flex throughout the rear triangle.

10/9/2024 1:15pm Crab-country bikes Edit: looks like the flex is built into the chain stay, which looks to slim out right where the pivot on the current one is. I think most of the rest flex in the seat stay, no?

10/9/2024 1:11pm Hey all, just got this shiny new thing in the mail to test. Rimpact's press release is linked here, along with some of my first impressions before bolting it on the old bike. Obviously it looks a lot like an Ochain, but Rimpact says their device is designed to address a different mechanism of suspension interference. Innovation! Let me know what you think: https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/rimpact-chain-damper

10/9/2024 1:09pm There's nothing wrong with 34mm, stanchion diameter isn't everything when building a stiff fork. Feels like we're in a bit of an arms race to use bigger and bigger stanchions. I'm guilty of it... Went from a 36 to a 38 when my favourite fork chassis is a 35mm lyrik... And my gravel/xc bike has a 35mm pike lol. Look at the Mattoc down there at 34mm that is as stiff as a 36 and plenty burly enough for more than just down country.

10/8/2024 6:30am Small tip for people using the Maven bleed kit. It's pretty much impossible to get the air completely out of the syringe hoses before installing them on the brakes, because after pushing the last of the air out, the seal causes the piston to retract slightly and pull a bubble of air back in. Just make sure you always start your bleed by pulling the syringe plunger slightly before pushing it to migrate this bubble out the hose and into the syringe reservoir, to avoid shooting this air bubble into your brakes and making your bleed more difficult than it...

10/7/2024 11:36am Those are two different things. WRP 0 drag mod is exactly what it was designed for; zero drag free coasting. It was designed to reduce rolling resistance. When you backpedal, it moves the DT ratchets apart so they are no longer dragging. When you pedal forward it re-engages them so you can pedal. WRP themselves mentioned it was not designed...

10/2/2024 12:59pm That exact prototype tire with ZK tech has been around since 2021. Just another layer of tread protection for the pro race runs. The only production tire that uses it is the Maxxis High Road.
