Pretty sure the axle is the main thing holding the derailleur in alignment (I have one and installed it).

I think the majority of riders don't fully grasp how to finetune the derailleur so the through headset routing doesn't impact them directly. It looks cleaner so it sells on the shop floor. So all the moaning and whining we do on these forums has a precisely diddly squat effect on the situation as at the end of the day it's the sales numbers that matter. And the sales of through-headset routed bikes might just be better than the sales of externally or through-frame routed bikes. We are vocal, but we are a minority. Sometimes I don't get the hate Sram receives. We are all arguably on better bikes and better drivetrains because of their push for 1x. One of my favorite bikes ever, the Kona Process 111 was able to be created because of 1x systems (Kona unapologetically designed it without the ability to run a FD). Color me a Sram fanboy if you'd like, but they aren't afraid to shake up the status quo with new innovations. I have AXS on my Spur and run the AXS reverb on 2 different bikes and absolutely love it. If we're poking fun at SRAM marketing, make sure to pay attention for dropped articles in their new AXS press release, too. SRAM hates articles like "the" or "a" in front of their products names. "Lyrik has the most efficient... blah blah blah" or "Zeb is the stiffest... blah blah blah." If you or I talked like that people would think we're crazy. "I drink Coffee ® out of Mug ® that I put on Table ® while I sit in Chair ®."

As a marketing professional it is standard practice to not use "the" or "a" in front of a name. Lyrik and Zeb are names. Table and chair are objects. Everyone does this. Look at Chevy and Ford. They don't use the F150 or The Silverado.

Here in the alpes I like trying to climb every stupidly steep climb instead of pushing, hehe. But yeah most people around here can't be asked and have switched over to ebike.

Last year I was running a double chainring 32/22 with the same 52T rear. I'm climbing everything I can around here (Portes du Soleil). Don't want to have to push. But most of the fire roads are made for 4x4 and are super vertical.

Integrated bashguards* @sprungmass I think the 52T is a spider/carrier, the two smaller aluminium rings are pressed/pinned onto it and the lower 9 gears still appear to be single piece, as currently. Should make for a cheaper to make (cheaper to buy?) and a lighter cassette. With less endurance though (but Shimano also has 3 Al rings on the XTR cassette, 2 on the XT, 1 on the SLX and 0 on Deore).
