I really enjoyed the video. Coworkers and other people frequently ask me what they should get and I never know what to recommend. This will be a good resource for those situations. Also makes me reflect a little on how spoiled I've become with having to have perfect everything and chasing that. I still love riding but perhaps times were simpler (and maybe better?) when I could only afford a $1,200 bike and hand-me-down tires.

Your article was enlightening. I have been struggling to understand the antipathy towards e-bikes and I think you've highlighted it - culture. There would appear to be a feeling that e-bikes don't fit an idealized notion of mountain bike culture and might bring people to the trails who aren't like “us" - who might drive a Porsche and not know who Steve Peat is. Do you have any proof that it isn't true? from what I've seen i think he nailed it. Most pros only post pics and videos of e-bikes to please sponsors. kinda like how a lot of pros posted pics of fat bikes and plus sized tires in the past even though behind the scenes it was common knowledge that no pros used them. Don't forget pro's are paid to sell bikes for the sponsors and the sponsors want to sell e-bikes.

The problem is they will hurt trail access. I've seen plenty of e-bikers out on the trails that WILL hurt themselves and/or others because the barrier of MTB being hard (to get to the top at least and cover ground) is almost non-existent with an e-bike. They have no clue what they're doing out there. More hikers getting run over, more inexperienced 'e-riders' getting hurt on the way down, more EMS runs to extract injured people off the trail. MTB being difficult means that only the people that really want to do it and are willing to pay the dues...

So the BACK COUNTRY HORSEMEN OF AMERICA are suing the UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE for allow eMTB class-1 on 132 miles of non-motorized trails. One of their key points is safety do to speed of a eMTB (Max 20mph), shit a horse with a human on it's back can reach speeds of 40mph, just another joke of a lawsuit.

I am 78 this year and after 13 surgeries from a climbing incident now have a blue permanent hang tag for the rear view mirror. No price. No link to it on the site. Also, I still don't get "DWR" jackets for actual riding. I'm either caught out in the rain or snow or I'm not and stretch water resistant DWR is good for about 15 minutes before you're wearing a soggy, heavy spandex bag.

Great bike for a little shredder. On a side note, interesting how the frame only option is 1k, while the sentinel or adult bikes are double the prices. Obviously a little shock upgrade, and more material, but a 1k increase is crazy.

I think the open face versus full face debate is more complex than full face is (all other things being equal like the helmets being compared are both MIPS or not etc) always safer. The notion of "I will take the added protection"...I do not get it. I see a lot of racers and consumers that have suffered accidents where they have hit their head, not once have I said with a half shell "Damn, if they only had their ears covered". So its 'perceived' protection IMO. Added heat and weight, why not just wear a proper lightweight full time full face like a TLD Stage, Proframe, etc...? I think it's pretty gimmicky, but ain't hatin' on anyone who runs one, I know a guy who loves his, he's riding more, so F it...

That's a foolish way to think about it. There's a lot of grey area when it comes to whether something is a manu defect or consumer error. Companies with lifetime warranties are saying they can cover that grey area indefinitely. That costs money, because every single manufacturer has problems at some point. Companies with a limited span on their warranty don't necessarily make an inferior product, they simply don't have pockets deep enough to do that given the volume they sell. Again, take Santa Cruz and their Reserve wheels, where they literally just ship you a whole new wheel, hub...

As a consumer though when it says “lifetime” that means the company has 100% confidence in their product when you see 2, 5, or 7 year it’s like soooooo does that mean it’s gonna break or something when those years hit?
