Ok here is my unified semi-conspiracy theory that explains the proto V10, Jackson Goldstone's bike weights, the mysterious lack of a Specialized Enduro, the development journey of the Demo, lagging enduro enthusiasm from bike companies in general, and even the Orbea Rallon. Manufacturers think that e-bikes are the future and are orienting themselves toward dedicating a majority of their efforts toward producing them. They have the following assumptions about e-bikes: -E-bikes have shown that the weight of the motor under the bottom bracket can actually play a positive role in how a bike handles. It drives the front tire into...

Love that Forbiddens latest email pays true homage to the Crab link: "Still wondering what the f**** we’re on about with all the crab stuff? A theory exists called Carcinisation wherein all non-crab crustaceans evolve a crab-like body plan. A very clever Vital MTB user noticed how many mountain bikes brands had evolved towards the same form and linkage lay out. He declared that this new evolution of bike layouts be named the crab link. And many pages of crab jokes followed. It’s an obscure and very inside joke. But hey, now you’re in on it too." Trend setters we...

Very nice outline of how to do the stopwatch button setup. I've been thinking about this option, but it never occured to me to use a killswitch button. That makes things pretty easy. Do you know any that has a nice distinct "click" when pressed?

The timing was all done on a Freelap chip system. It is one of the least expensive ready to go chip systems. A little bulky if you are toting it out to the trails, the transmitters are not small, but it all can fit it all into a larger 100oz hydration pack with the bladder removed. Pretty simple to use on a phone through the app. Just set the transmitters at the start and at the end, you can add a split time if additional transmitters are purchased. Everything is rechargeable and I've run it for 6+ hours without issue...

That's a seriously classy goodbye from Eric. Such a bummer to see sponsored athletes who are so intertwined with a specific brand have to part ways due to the current situation.

I can't reply to this without derailing the thread into something I don’t intend. I also don’t care to 'defend' all Marc’s ideas, implied, explicit, or otherwise. Giant waste of time, even if I do feel you are painting him in a light that isn't totally accurate. The point I was making is that I’m not going to do mental gymnastics to ensure every author, economist, professor, VC, CEO, or personality passes some arbitrary moral or ethical purity test to be worth including here. At its best, this is a thread of ideas with application to the economics of the...

Thanks for reading! I’m not trying to launch into a full on mega post on A16z or Marc, but I’ll say this: we’re better off when we can take ideas we like from people and leave the ones we don’t. I’ve yet to meet anyone I agree with 100% or anyone who hasn’t put their foot in their mouth at some point. Marc can be tone-deaf (like myself), sure, but he also helped create the modern internet browser and has been one of the most influential capital allocators of our time. He's also a guy who has incredible vision for...

It would be cool if there were 'homologation' frames- such that after a prototype grace period ends, Mondraker, Specialized, Norco could all release 10 frames. Unpolished products built for unapologetic speed, at unobtanium prices. SR Suntour did it with Pidcock's electronic suspension for 5k per set.

I got some new tires, inserts, tape, and sealant. Kryptotals, which ended up being some of the tightest beads I’ve ever tried to put on. Front went on well. Back broke two tire levers. The second broke as the tire went on, so I had to crack it open to get the lever piece out. Got some sealant in, and tried pumping it up. And tried again, and again and again and again. I couldn’t get it to seat. Let it sit in the sun, used some soapy water, everything. Finally, finally the bead was seated and it held air...

Yep, been there. Now I always check the hanger bolt first when there are shifting issues, and continually disappointed to find a loose bolt hasn't been the cause since.

Sell it at peak COVID, buy it back for pennies on the dollar in peak tariffs. The only way to make money in the bike industry?
