8/21/2025 3:08am The legs are priced reasonably (on the standard, not the Blackline which is a single piece and therefore surely more expensive) but also require a press. The issue is that the Intend forks are claimed to be carefully part matched so your particular parts don't bind. I'd rather spend $250 more to protect the legs than mess with all that down the road. For me, it's not a fork I'd own if I could not rig up some quality fork leg protection. Anyways, I'm building up a new bike for the Fall to replace the Relay. It'll likely be a...

8/19/2025 5:27pm As someone 5' 9" who test rode a full 29er once, experienced tire buzz, and never rode a full 29er again (other than hardtails) I can confidently say that I will never own a full suspension bike with a 32" wheel. I struggle enough with manuals and some last second jumps on my mullet bike. 29 rear and 32 front for me, and millions of other "average" sized riders would pretty much be a strictly wheels-on-the-ground affair, and that sounds about as fun as watching paint dry, compared to the actual mountain biking we do on a regular basis. For...

8/19/2025 3:21am IIRC mixed wheel sizes are only allowed in DH and Enduro by the UCI rules.

8/15/2025 9:44am The rules for DH are almost as simple as saying that whoever rides a bike from the top to the bottom fastest while staying in the track limits wins, and I love it. Any type of hyper specific equipment rules like those in road racing or ski racing just limits the innovation that's required to be the fastest. If somebody wants to wear ankle weights or put oobleck in their tires because they think it's better, then they should let them. Let the fastest rider win. Shake weight in the steerer tube? Sure. Hamster bottle for the rear brake? Have...

8/15/2025 3:31am I don't think anybody would expect anything different. I think the point is that SRAM parts are obscenely expensive relative to buying the whole. I don't know if these are representative, but Lost Co came up as my first google search so I'll go with that. Eagle Transmission Derailleur - $400 Eagle 90 Mechanical Derailleur - $190 Cage Assembly - $140 If you break the cage on your electronic derailleur, you need to pony up 35% of the total cost to replace it. If you break the cage on your mechanical derailleur, you're at 74% of the cost of a...

8/14/2025 10:35am Welp, you can probably tell by my clickbait thumbnail alone, but I'm not a fan of the Podium thus far. TL;DR (or TL;DW), its different, but its not better. I also have durability issues that have occurred on two different Podiums and the performance is meh. Not bad, but certainly not worth the money. Also, I think now is a good time for me to eat crow and go "yeah, I think the media guys did get something a little different".

8/14/2025 9:35am But it's modular now, you only have to replace the broken part not the whole derailleur. (Pay no attention to the fact that the individual replaceable parts are more expensive than an entire derailleur.)

8/14/2025 9:33am Finally! A proper electronic DH rear derailleur. I've been wondering when we'd be able to pay $1500 to ruin three derailleurs on the same rock in one race weekend. Can't come fast enough.

8/14/2025 3:45am I just unbolt the lever from the handlebars so I don't have to remove the caliper when I do a lower service. It's less faffing around to put the lever back into the same position that realigning a caliper.

8/13/2025 10:44am Good eye, and that's hilariously bad. I'm 99% certain that no one planned out hose routing before making this arch for the test fork, and somebody had to get out a drill and give it their best shot. At least I'm hoping so, because that hose location does NOT look ready for prime time.
