8/13/2025 9:43am I agree that DT Swiss hubs, due to how the end caps simply rest on the bearing face, are the worst in terms of helping torsional stiffness. Any hub where either the axle or the end cap goes all the way through the bearings will be better. I don't know if the I9 1-1 system (where the end cap goes through the bearing and into the axle) or the CK/OneUp/Hadley system (where the axle goes all the way through the bearings and the end caps then go over the axle), is better. I would assume the latter would be stiffer...

8/13/2025 9:00am Back in mech life daze I learned after the 10-100th time the first spot to check for creaks was the chainring bolts. The number of times I had practically torn down a complete bike for naught due to one or more of those buggers being a tad loose was pretty embarrassing. Plus side, later when one of the other mechs was in the process of doing the same I got to be the smug hero who would tighten the damn things and solve their half hour + struggle. That bit of learning drives me to this day, often pulling the...

8/13/2025 8:59am I had a 3 - 4 beer single speed build one night after work years ago. At this time I didn't have a stand so I turned it upside down to install the cranks, pedals, wheel, chain and chain tensioner in my garage. Satisfied with my chain tension I flipped it over and hopped on. It would only go backwards, I had installed the drive on the wrong side....

8/13/2025 4:49am Thanks to everyone for the comments so far. Few things to note... GPS Accuracy: This is something I've battled for 2 months. I thought it was going to be a lot easier than it turns out to be. At this point, I'm within my edge 130 with respect to accuracy (maybe a touch below that). Is this good enough? I think so. Strava runs a few algorithms server side (once you upload) that are patented (ask me how I learned that haha) to smooth/clean up the data. Overall, accuracy will improve as I see adoption and can justify spending money...

8/12/2025 6:01am Not sure why the downvotes are coming in. This year, a brand at their Canadian dealer event brought all their A-level dealers into a meeting and asked them "our ~130mm trial bike that we're really proud of isn't selling, what gives and what do we do with the next one?" and the dealers, nearly unanimously said "it can't be 37 pounds in that category". While it's true the demands on trail bikes have never been higher, if I'm going to be pushing a bike that weighs the same as a 160mm bike, pedals the same as a 160mm bike, and...

8/12/2025 5:49am I liked the general analogy of 'palate fatigue' with your BMX monster. It touches on a point that I thought was oddly relevant. I forget who said it, sadly. But they basically said, the MTB industry isn't sure where to go in terms of innovation and current customers have just about NO reason to upgrade. (The only sector that can kick this trend being e-bikes, which is a good helpful thing but in terms of cost still niche in the broader bike market I suppose.) But within the context of like 1x drivetrains, dropper posts, switching to 29er and now...

8/12/2025 5:35am Similarly, When servicing a Grip2 damper, point the hole in the damper body AWAY from yourself (or be smart and cover the hole loosely with a rag). I was wearing safety glasses but it still makes a big mess.

8/12/2025 4:04am I'm not sure he does get ignored unless there is a result. This is all feeling and I haven't gone back to check but it felt like for the first part of last year he was ignored, not on Wyn TV , not mentioned on post race podcasts , not on photo reports . Then this year it seemed it was easier for everyone to just not mention it and slowly bring him back into the fold in terms of coverage . And yeah I get that if he gets a top 5 they can't really ignore him but it...

8/12/2025 3:45am Love Jordies point about 'counting any instance where they are put on at an airport or bar or similar'... Aka where nobody is watching it. Also makes me miss Fox Dialed so much, if only for the Jordie Q&As that aren't even suspension specific. Bro has opinions and no qualms about speakin em out loud.

8/12/2025 3:41am Give if a few more years of increased costs and worse coverage and we’ll see where the sponsors end up. Not remotely sustainable without outside support and new fans who want to buy Mtbs. Neither is happening.

8/12/2025 3:40am Well I can think of 10 people, 2 bike brands, and the network of supporters behind them who’d want to share that image. Besides the actual race with coverage is at the end of the week. It will have double the views of anything on wbds YouTube channel now that they have removed juniors. And the winning run will likely have views in the millions as opposed to the views under 200k. There is also the Garbo and air Dh as smaller podium opportunities. Tons of vlog opportunities. And the entire week is probably the most attended mtb event in...

8/12/2025 3:35am I don't know for sure, but I think part of the drive to bring back the old school Whistler DH race during Crankworx and run two different race courses is because the 1199 course is too rowdy for some of the junior categories. Which is a great idea, becasue the 1199 course is pretty gnarly. On a related note, the current 1199 course doesn't run all the way to the bottom of the mountain (yet). I heard of some plans to extend the trail to the bottom when/if Whistler gets a World Cup or World Champs. I wonder if any...

8/12/2025 3:20am I'd say the tacky chan is a faster rolling, better cornering dhr - or a better braking, smaller dead zone dhf. I think the magic marry is more comparable to an assegai. I haven't ridden the Albert, but it sounds like the aggressor in terms of being a middle of the road tire with no standout features - can anyone confirm/deny?
