If you read the third paragraph defining the testing parameters, you will see that the tire manufacturers chose which tire should be tested. By keeping the air pressure the same we were able to test the casing (sidewall support) as well as a multitude of tires over a short amount of time. If the pressures changed between tires, then the way the casing acts would change as well as the grip, which would mean we would need to test each tire at every pressure, which would take a lifetime. Yeah I've thought something like this would be a great idea too, Fox even provide a convenient threaded hole that needs a better function that the current one! Funny thing is Rockshox fitted a drain plug to their totem and maybe the original Lyrik back in about 2006 but it didn't really catch on sadly. The OG Avid Juicy also had an inspection window on the brake levers, until SRAM bought them and ditched the window (and split clamp) when they brought production to their factories

A sight glass in fork lowers is a good idea. I still think a drain plug and fill hole would be a huge improvement too.

Hahaha we recorded a fresh B Practice Pod this morning chatting about U.S. Natty Champs, and we talked about the front tire test a bit. I had to give Dak credit for hyping up Vee tires since we all liked the Attack HPL. But turns out he's never ridden that tire and always runs the Attack FSX. Go figure! He said he likes the FSX because it reminds him of a DHR II. Also, the podcast will go live sometime in the next few hours.

Love a good tire shootout and even better when the winner wasn't on my radar - something to look at for sure. I've been running Butcher and Hillbilly as my front tires, summer and winter respectively of course. Both are grid trail T9 and very easy to get along with. Except I sometimes wish for a little more loose condition bite on the Butcher. The Attack HPL might be a good replacement next time?
