And most of the time they were standing mostly on the axle anyway. It never seemed that impressive. But a good bit they managed to get all these reviewers do for no real reason.

You are correct, thanks for making mention before I could catch up in this thread. On longer climbs I would take the chain off but most times I just wouldn't care to. The bigger problem was the chain length in my largest rear cog when using the lower guide, only a problem during climbing though. The system was great while descending. But I just run the ochain now instead of the lower guide because it's manages the chain whipping and is less faff.

One thing missing here is the fact that with the proliferation of composite know how, there are more people around able to safely repair a wider range of issues. Rather than pretending we are recycling carbon bikes I’d love to see more frames designed in ways that facilitate repair. Repair is verifiable in a way that recycling is not, it is cost effective for everyone concerned, and it is as close as you’ll get to good for the environment. It probably flows on to other design decisions to ensure repair is viable (like bearing placement, etc etc), but designing bikes...

Your rant comes off as just a bunch of lop-sided frustration. You list a bunch of things you hate yet have zero information on what bothers you specifically. There is no such thing as a perfect design, everything in life is about tradeoffs. Mechanical design is no different, both shimano and sram have teams of ME's sitting and arguing...

Gonna be a dick and point out that if you run smaller than a 32t, you don’t need a power meter, you need a gym. Edit: it’s not my opinion, just an uncomfortable matter of fact for why they don’t make power meters for 30t rings. I’m sure there are exceptions, like people riding fully loaded 87lb touring bikes who pump out 450 watts so they can go at a walking pace. Or Primoz who apparently lives in a magical land where rock climbing and mountain biking intersect.

take the same wheel and put it in an oldschool 29er with 142 hubs and suddenly it fits. magic.
