Showing up to a federal land agency meeting with heat maps printed discussing decommission was an eye opening experience. It’s a great tool for them to identify and remove any trail that was a significant amount of time to build. Your 2 minutes of enjoyment likely was 100 hours of work or more. And it just put a bullseye on the trail when you published your ride. You can remove sharing heat maps on your settings, not make rides public and hide your maps. Or just not strava those trails.

Wanted to say this too. If you’re Loic or Jackson you have some freedom (but not unlimited freedom) to change damper architecture and get the feel you want, but most of us mere mortals are boxed in by our forks and shocks regarding how stiff or soft we can go on damping, before they get too harsh or too open. And there’s a lot of crosstalk between compression, rebound, high speed, and low speed. I have been considering open sourcing my design for several years now. Likely the approach I would take is to provide a carrier board (not dissimilar to an Arduino shield) that handles all the power management, bluetooth, and GPS connections and allow people to manage their own wiring harness, battery selection, 3D printed cases etc. The firmware is all C++/Arduino so its pretty easy to get into. Friction is a big part so switching to coil is a good start but the first thing is tyres - appropriate casing/width and pressures set about as low as you can get away with. If those aren't dialled then damping changes won't make much difference, and usually you would want less low speed damping but high speed can go either way - both too much and too little can be harsh. I’ve tried both styles, I think there is a time in place for both types of set ups. Using data acquisition tools. It’s really easy to get this bike set up one way or another. For me, less spring and more damper feels better on Terrain that is firmer(hardpack) and maybe less grip. Also less pitch, so like a moderate grade type trails. So it took me way to long to stitch these together and export it properly, but I did this test with the tyre at 18psi and 26psi, the 18psi gave the best result. Using parts on hand like some springs around 11.8 N/mm, a 250g mass and a 600g(250+350) mass. Some food for thought… let’s assume each leg is a cylindrical joint where it can slide linearly and rotate around the axis of said cylinder.
