Skunk Works Suspension Liked a reply to forum topic Why are yokes sideways?
3/1/2026 2:14pm I'd say the one piece design was marginally better in that regard. Any extended yoke system is inherently bad for shocks in general due to the increased leverage it places on them. The bolted on 2 arm system was very flexy, and introduced a new source of potential shock/frame misalignment. If the frame alignment was spot on, the improved stiffness and alignment of the one piece design was superior. Unfortunately, frame/shock alignment for this generation of Enduro was often very poor. I spent many hours tuning a Fox DHX RC4 to try and get it to work with this frame...

3/1/2026 8:52am The bike that launched the shock-destroying, clevis-extension era! The notched design with bolt on arms was a half baked emergency measure. The frame was originally designed for an elegant, albeit proprietary, one piece shock/yoke. Unfortunately the entire in-house suspension program at Specialized was scrapped before it ever made it to production. The notch/arm design was created to allow the use of any standard shock. I notched quite a eyelets in the Morgan Hill shop before the big suspension OEs got up to speed. There were only Qty8 of these beauties ever made. Nicknamed The Tuning Fork, they produced a lovely...

2/28/2026 7:11am I always strip and rebuild bikes and frames when they're new to make sure that everything has grease, anti-seize, and locktite where needed and the only bike where it was a waste of time was a Specialized because everything was already assembled well. My Raaw madonna was pretty good too but the main bearing lip seals had been damaged and needed replacing. The sealing on the Raaw is pretty good and the stock bearings lasted a couple years in most of the pivots except the main pivot that wore out in 6 months. The main pivot is sealed from the...

2/27/2026 6:34pm Heard on a podcast Jesse Melamed talk about helping out a local company, I'm pretty sure he rides on RMU skis. He talked about how it ended up on the vital forum so more fuel to the fire. Now here's hoping Dave W let's them have some longer chainstays.

2/27/2026 7:14am DYAD on the Jekyll, Claymore and Trigger. I had a Claymore that I really liked, super fun bike. I would totally buy another if it came up, but I would also make sure to buy a spare DYAD to go with it - pretty sure no one services them anymore.

2/27/2026 7:10am For the record I think they’re making extremely smart decisions. But by playing it so safe and hitting everything down the middle they are losing a little bit of their edge (and I mean attitude edge not business edge…) the Levo R doesn’t excite us but I’ll be damned if that doesn’t become a ubiquitous sight at low-grade trailheads and greenways around the world

2/27/2026 7:08am Heard that RMU, a ski company with shops in Truckee, whis, and breck, are launching an aluminum, DW designed all mountain bike (170 fork) that apparently pedals quite well. There’s likely to be a 140 version to follow, and potentially ebikes to follow that. Made in Taiwan. Should drop in March, curious if they’ll be at sea otter with it. Could it be this thing?

2/26/2026 6:07pm I don't think there's any way how you could reasonably argue that anything in Specialized's current line-up is a "dud". On the contrary, everything they released within the last couple of years has been very well received. The Epic is considered to be the de-facto benchmark in its category - even by other manufacturers. The Stumpy 15 has won multiple bike-of-the-year awards and basically every reviewer loved it. The Chisel is basically the only actually good and worthwhile budget XC bike on the market. The road bikes are all considered to be top notch, so is the Diverge gravel bike...

2/26/2026 6:07pm Just noticed the ShockWiz page no longer has a product on it, are SRAM killing it as a standalone device? https://www.sram.com/en/quarq/series/shockwiz/shockwiz?filters=&sort=Re… You can still buy parts tho: https://www.sram.com/en/search?t=shockwiz
