Hello! I have a question on how it would change de feel of the shock when using a more progressive linkage , Does it rebound faster? I have a sc v10.8 and when changing from the middle to the low position on the lower link I feel that the bike is more progressive. I dont have any numbers or info that confirms what im writing but what its supossed to be a geometry adjuster feels more like a dinamic adjustement, the bike feels like it starts softer riding lower in the travel. In theory, what damping adjustments would you need...

Changing to a linkage driven single pivot similar to Kona from a Horst setup dramatically increases anti-rise at start of travel and it drops more over full travel. Comparatively, the changes Commencal has made barely change anything. I would hazard to guess that Commencal is more after changes in compliance than kinematics.

Would love to see a Camber but from what specialized is telling dealers the non-evo epic saw way better sell through. Surprising to me, but I guess xc is hot right now.

Just got an early access email from RMU about their new bike the Nighttrain - 170/170 full 29 DW Orion dual chain. Pricing is good at $2500 frame/shock.

Most of you probably won't like hearing this. I certainly didn't. Earlier this week I had a chat with a guy who works in a product management role for Ralf Bohle GmbH, which is the owner of the Schwalbe tire brand. Mainly I asked a bunch of XC racing related questions, about compounds, casings, radial ply, rolling resistance testing, wheter we'll ever see the speediest XC casing with a black sidewall and why they felt they needed to change their naming scheme for casings and compounds. The gist of it is that they are hard at work behind the scenes...

That's why they are releasing this now: "Hey boss, can we start teasing the new goods? Not yet, gotta wait until thegromit orders the current version...."

According to their instagram it will be called the NIGHTTRAIN. Other details include suspension designed with Dave Weagle (by the looks of the pictures probably something similar to what's on the Phoenix) and that it will be offered in three different build kits.

I went with too stiff but with the caveat that's it's slightly.... I can still remember the feel of a 160mm Fox 32 (circa 2015..) twisting and I don't wish to revisit that sensation. Having said that I also remember those 1st gen enve wheels where you could feel every pebble so much too stiff is as bad as much too flexy. And as I get older comfort seems to matter more and more (or all my trails are just getting way rougher....)

Frame stiffness in MX is very interesting. I always had issues with cornering at high RPM's on my KTM, as the bike feels like it binds up and gets super stiff when there's a whole lot of vibrations going through it. One of the weirdest sensations I've experienced on a MX bike, feels like it gets nervous and twitchy. Might be one of the drawbacks of a steel frame. Sexton has been experimenting with increased stiffness on the swingarm since St. Louis I think. Would be interesting to feel the difference between the stock swingarm and the one he's running.

Fully active suspension like what was banned in F1 would be fascinating on a mountain bike. And then it should be banned.

They got it wrong all the time too. Honda in ‘97 being the prime example. How they didn’t listen to McGrath I’ll never understand.

The moto guys realized a long time ago that some chassis flex is a good thing.. Especially while cornering.. Suspension doesn't always work as well leaned over..

Yup. The price isn’t “too steep” if Specialized is marketing and easily selling these to people with appropriately deep pockets. It’s entirely likely they don’t have much of a goal to make it affordable for more people if they’re not producing the quantity and can still sell out of them. Pricing people out of the market creates exclusivity, which is the cool factor among the Ferrari and Rolex crowd.
