With old gripshift pinion you had to let it go for it to change, there is no way around it. The benefit is that the shift is instant, you dont need to make a full spin of a crank for the chain to change cog. The let go requires a bit of adjustment, but I absolutely loved the instant shift on my test spin, if it only wasnt so freaking expensive...

thanks! so derailing for a bit, but could that thing be dangerous in a crash where first impact is on the lower/back of the head (like you get flung around backwards and whiplashed to your back)? it's a massive single point of contact vs wide/smooth area like the rest of the helmet.

Yes its the smart shift electronic system in the new Zerode - the old gearboxes only needed the load to be backed off slightly (like a derailleur) but the reason for that was mostly in the shifting system from what I understand. The box itself can handle the shifting under load so I think the smartshift is able to make it happen because its acting directly on the gearbox. Its a trigger system too, but I havent been able to play with one in person yet to be able to compare

ACL is a mandatory repair. MCL is not. Nearly impossible to be an athlete without an ACL. The MCL also has three muscles/tendons that help provide medial knee stability. So it’s nice to have, but not necessarily needed. Wouldn’t be surprised if not repairing it leads to more osteoarthritis down the line, though. MCL gets repaired if there’s also bone avulsion or substantial instability.

holy hell did anyone see this coming? With all the speculation floating around, I don’t think crestline has been mentioned even once. great way to put them on the radar for people who haven’t heard of them before that’s for sure

I can’t add much but I met Harriet Harnden and her mechanic at Dyfi a few months ago, got chatting in the uplift truck. She had the Mavens on her Trek Slash. I asked about whether they were what I thought they were and just got a smile and a ‘maybe’ 😂 They’re noticeably ‘beefier’ looking than the Codes, comparable in size to the Dominion or Hope V4 I’d reckon. Had what looked like the standard Code RSC levers, the newer ones that sit closer to the bar.

From my experience with calipers, bolted vs mono block isn’t all that important as long as the bolted interface is done properly. That entails getting the fasteners as close to the rotor as possible and maximizing contact area between the two halves. Most the deflection should be between the joint/bridge and the bottom edge of the caliper regardless of how it’s constructed. In my mind for bikes, most the benefit of a mono block lies in packaging. Not having to worry about big bolts frees up space. The bridge across the center of magura calipers would be hard to fit...

I don't believe that is what's really going on for a couple of reasons. 1, rubber generally expands much more than aluminum when heated so adding heat makes the seal fit tighter. 2, when designing our calipers we found that without compression played less of a roll with pad retract than you'd think. Too little compression creates sealing issues and too much increases risk of compression set. What I think is mostly likely causing what they are experiencing is super hard braking. That happens to usually correspond with lots of heat. Since seal deflection controls pad retract, if you apply...

Fluid volume itself doesn't necessarily mean more power. That's more dependent on the ratio of caliper piston area to master cylinder piston area. Adding fluid volume in the caliper does help with heat, but unless you make the caliper dissipate heat faster they'll still get hot eventually. This is why you see phenolic and ceramic caliper pistons. They insulate the caliper body from brake heat better than a stainless piston.

Not only that, but in the event of the shock hardware coming loose and being ridden, a standard eyelet shock is much less likely to suffer damage over a trunnion shock.
