Does anyone read the marketing copy for bikes at all? If I were looking at a bike company I knew nothing about, I’d filter model by desired travel, scan photos to look at suspension design, and then go straight to the geometry section. I feel like this is the case for most experienced riders. Completely naive (I mean that in the sense of new and uninitiated) riders are going to feel overwhelmed by all the dumb jargon the industry has created and zone out of most marketing copy also. I think this is about the most harmless application of AI...

I think the 55lb mark is the threshold for "too heavy." I think it also depends on how the weight is distributed in the frame too. Meaning not all 55lbs bikes feel/ride the same. I was fully on the "get the bike as light as possible" train before I got into emtb's and I thought the weight was going to be a bigger issue than it is. I honestly only notice the weight taking the bike on and off the rack. Otherwise, on the trail I prefer the heavier weight to my park mtb. We're all clearly not him, but...

Wasn't the Super-Bruni thing a joke a fan came up with a few years ago? I know Loic has said he leans into it for world champs weekend to try to get into an unbeatable headspace. Virtually every interview I have seen of him makes him seem like a good dude. Anyway, before talking up Jackson 4x gold titles etc...

On my third ebike now, my previous Giant Reign was alloy frame with heavy motor and battery, DH tyres and coil spring. It weighed 26kg (57lbs) with pedals, so I just don't see how anything heavier is justifiable. Currently, have a carbon, bosch gen5 system with air suspension that is between 23 and 24kg depending on which battery I put...

Plenty of teams would happily drop a rider or two to make space for her with the current focus on team points. I'm sure Trek would be more than happy to take her back, seeing how their season is going.

It's a lot simpler than that! Plenty of people only buy Specialised, and owning a DH bikes is cool again. Could be the brand image, or the marketing (lies), or the good service they get at the shop, probably trade in their old specialised from 9 months ago... Not taking shots at anyone, I know plenty of people that operate...

Prelim team until I know the weather clears up :/ @sspomer Troy Brosnan is a hundred bucks, I know it is his 100th world cup, but I'm assuming that should be at least 100k!

Long time Shimano user, bought Fox union boa's after being able to try them in the shop, really comfy and come with 2 different sole inserts with different arch heights.

this thread is so hilarious and educational that we turned it into an Inside Line. @TEAMROBOT, @Jason_Schroeder and I go over some of the best here, discuss some of our own and have a blast doing it. thanks so much to @seanfisseli for starting this and everyone who contributed. let's keep it going!! one i've not mention has do to with quill stems. twice when i was a kid, my handlebars fell off. once in a bmx race and once on a 10-speed hauling through a crusty asphalt parking lot. my dad didn't realize that the quill bolt was as...

Maybe controversial take: As Jason kinda alluded to, there are so many recap videos and articles just after the race, I much prefer the rambling part of this type of podcast, especially the middle which was insider stories from the race and tech, and couldn't really care less about the top 5 in each category at the end of the podcast.

As others have said, this is a nice thread which has surprisingly little trolling/politics or conflict in general. @jeff.brines in case it comforts you somewhat, I have a good friend working in a hedge fund, he has pretty much been depressed since covid telling me none of the financial models apply anymore and the markets don't react with any reasonable...

Hey everyone, not mad at anyone in this thread (besides maybe myself). I clearly have ideas and a delivery style that probably isn’t ideal for a mountain bike forum. Robot wrote a genuinely great post (he’s a better writer than me), and I realized there was no way for me to counter it. Not because I didn’t have anything to say, but because I started turning into this (actual photo Tucker took of me this morning): Any frustration you see from me is with myself, not anyone else. I like friction. I like debate. What I don’t like is knowing...

Kinda wild that the other site is giving YT a huge banner ad for a new launch when they have hoodwinked heaps of people out of 1000's

I've done 2 big rides with the additional power update. The increase in power is noticeable, but the added overrun is the most striking. I downshift into regular emtb before descents as I am a bit worried about the excessive overrun, might need to tune the "dynamic" setting further down. Note that I managed to derate the motor on both...

Thanks, it was a graph like that I was thinking of. I haven't seen one showing EMTB vs. EMTB+ though, so I didn't know that about the change to max assist. When I rode last night, I'd agree that EMTB did feel weaker than it used to when putting out a similar level of effort. The reason I like the dynamic modes (basically any of the ones where it's not just a linear relationship between assistance & rider power) is that they are really efficient where it's less steep and you don't need as much assistance, rather than wasting watts...

Sorry but have to respond to this. Who would spend thousands of dollars on a bike from a company in self-administration? You are taking a massive gamble on warranty and even spare parts. As far as I am concerned, they are no longer a viable bike brand.

That's not quite right, Emtb was much closer to Turbo, but starts with much lower assistance if you don't put much effort into the pedalling. Emtb can reach the same peak power and torque as Turbo. Before the update, both Emtb and Turbo had 320% max assist level. Now after the update I believe emtb stays at 320% max assist...

I have owned 2 YTs, loved the bikes and had great service. Gutted by the news. Obviously, financial stuff and market conditions will have been the main driver of this, but I have been puzzled by their e-bike offerings for ages now: 1st decoy came out as a great bike, not ahead of its time, but very competitive. As ebikes...
