9/18/2024 2:22pm It took reading four pages of mountain bike discussion, but I just remembered they have giant TMDs inside of skyscrapers to resist wind and earthquakes.

9/18/2024 2:04pm This is exactly my point. I know some stuff and both shops know that I'm not 100% ignorant and yet they're making these disparate recommendations. Imagine someone going in to a shop without a fistful of knowledge and relying on a shop to help them pick "the damn bike that suits your trails." Both of those shops would have put...

9/18/2024 12:00pm I can tell its starting to get colder and rainier in much of the Northern Hemisphere
We are over complicating this, for sure. The reality is you can ride any number of bikes down a trail and have fun. There is no such thing as "the perfect bike". Vital tends to skew a little more toward the racer, where bike choice matters (a lot) more, but even then I'd wager a good racer could likely put in about the same result on any number of good bikes with various amounts of travel (obviously within reason). Others have mentioned it...

9/18/2024 11:59am Great advice if the bikes are well-defined to the individual rider and the trails they're riding are well-defined to the individual rider. I think the issue is that people often don't know what they need so they have to guess. I'm a great example. I'm semi-new to mtb - 2 years in on a hardtail - but I have a...

9/18/2024 9:36am i'm trying get that. we have all our past surveys and trends at the bottom of this page - https://www.vitalmedianet.com/vital-mtb - but we never actually did a trend graphic with bike type/travel. here's 2017 for instance - the breakdown was diff over the years.

9/18/2024 9:32am Now I NEED to know what bike(s) you're riding and are happy with. Not for any reason other than I haven't had enough opportunity to try that many different bikes and "long, long, linear, slack" sounds like exactly the opposite of what I think I need for the trails I have near me. I've honestly not paid much attention to...

9/18/2024 9:28am hey all, i started a travel-specific discussion so tech rumors can stay focused on weird/new product - https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/how-much-suspension-travel-do-you-w… it has data from our 2024 survey that just wrapped up (thx brines for mentioning it)

9/16/2024 9:13pm I've ridden both but predominantly use clips for mountain biking, and used to find if I switched back to flats on the DH bike they could get bounced a little bit on certain bumpy sections, so I imagine it could help with those situations. Its probably exaggerated by being used to clips - if I was riding flats full time it might not be an issue

9/16/2024 1:02pm Would/could a rider on flats be looking for more stable and planted a bottom bracket than a clipless rider? I've only experienced flats because my brains are dumb, I have a long time riding flats in a past life as a street bmx rider, and I'm still pushing too hard and making dumb mistakes that would be worsened by being...

9/16/2024 12:59pm I didn’t notice any difference in traction to my feet using flat pedals. But notice more planted feel of the bike in general.

9/16/2024 9:37am That's an interesting thought. Does that TMD placement effect someone riding flats differently than someone riding clipless? Are their any patterns to observe currently?

9/12/2024 9:48am Through-headset cable routing? This is maybe the first bike I've seen with it semi-justified. The bike LOOKS great. But it also has special paint and special logos and has placed a significant importance on the visual. But brands need to fuck all the way off with through-headset routing.

9/11/2024 9:44am Sure. Those two things ARE different. But those sorts of official statements and the specific phrases used are often seen as possible leverage if one party is "misrepresenting" the other or their involvement. Brands don't tend to want to invite those sorts of points for scrutiny or potential legal "openings." In my experience on the marketing side of brands in...

9/11/2024 9:43am The specific wording both the statement from Atherton and the statement from Deuter uses makes me think they're going to be partnered in WC downhill for a bit. "...with Deuter’s support of the Continental Atherton race team." ..."partner with the Continental Atherton race team..." Knowing how picky and weird brands can be about contracts, names, public statements, etc. makes me...
