Dogboy Added a reply to Poll: Have your buying habits changed?
10/29/2024 3:18am I spend about the same. I'm in my 50's, have been riding forever, and still enjoy it immensely. It's a priority for me, so it would take a major, personal economic change to have an affect.

10/28/2024 8:22am Seriously. I calculated between 3,500 and 4,000 miles on an XTR cassette - it moved across a few bikes so I had to total up the miles on it. The wear life on them is extremely long.

10/28/2024 8:20am Are these "worn out in less than 200 miles" XTR cassettes in the room with us right now? They can creak, especially he earliest ones, but I've put thousands of miles on these and don't find they wear differently than any other cassette.

Dogboy Added a reply to Where do you mix and match wheel size? How do you feel different configs compare?
10/24/2024 3:33am This is pretty similar to my take on wheel size swaps. I've had a couple of bikes (Kona Process X and Ibis Ripley V5) now where the geo is retained with the flip chips (a few mm CS length change, but all other geo the same) and really enjoy the option to swap rear wheels. I'd say I have a...

10/23/2024 11:58am Chainring clearance on the frame right? Frame manufacturers are wanting to make stays wider at the frame or main pivot, so the Chainring has to move out.

10/10/2024 2:51pm Quick question, assuming a 4 lockout force is higher/firmer than a 2. Is that about it or any other differences?

9/26/2024 10:01am 2 beer koozies on the tool roll in the frame quiets it all down and leaves your properly prepared for parking lot beers. Different horses for different courses—no one cares where you carry stuff until you're stranded, and then once again, it doesn't matter as long as you have it. The engineering to get carbon frames with the tool storage is huge and very impressive, so it is definitely not a 'cheap' attribute.

8/21/2024 5:42am are the downvotes based on? cause i'm talking facts here, oh let's remember the 28gr for a udh, so at the axle, Gx vs GX t-type you have ( cassette + deralieur ) 738gr vs 936gr, so 200gr of extra unsprung weight, on a total of 219gr more for t- type, now on XO is 370gr, so the huge (100gr) weight saving on the frame are not only gone but gone right at your rear axle, nice

8/5/2024 9:06am It's heart-breaking to have to post news like this. Scott Huntley is the rider who passed away at National DH Champs yesterday. Eastern States Cup and many others have so many great things to say about Scott. He sure looked like a shredder and all-around great human. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends as we all mourn the loss of Scott. It's a sad, sad day for our community. Ride in Peace, Scott.

7/29/2024 8:22am I dunno, maybe it's not a bad idea to stay off of forums where people discuss racing until you've watched the race. It's a strategy that's always worked for me.😉

7/26/2024 10:40am The man took innovation to a whole new level. 0X front derailleur, shifting is synced to the cloud. I bet his headtube is double tapered. The issue most people have is that transmission is heavy and extremely expensive. Its really that, it's driving up the overall cost of running a quality setup, and that's rightly frustrating.

7/24/2024 1:47pm Got a new bike with GX Transmission and immediately pulled it off and replaced it with 12-speed Shimano Deore XT. Thankfully it had ports for the shift cable 😉

7/17/2024 4:21am Yep, you did. I'm a little surprised and it probably ends up making the Ripley a little heavier than it otherwise would be (I'm still getting one), but it makes a ton of sense as well.
