2/14/2025 9:37am We get messages at least once a month from someone in the desert Southwest who's pissed that we no longer make the Chronicle. I could never get along with plus tires. If I ran the pressures low enough to get a benefit in traction then the tire would fold and roll like crazy even in mellow corners. With enough pressure to provide cornering support, I was getting bounced all over the trail. For me, plus tires offered only downsides. I'm glad they were a relatively short lived fad in our fad obsessed industry.

10/15/2024 11:08pm Somewhere in the last 20 years readers here lost track of the sport's trajectory. We are firmly in upper-middle class sporting territory. Being a young sport ( Performance MTB ) many of us came from various socioeconomic backgrounds to make it happen in the 90s but now that landscape is quite different. I would argue we almost surpassed skiing as the well-to-do hobby for people with money to spend.

10/13/2024 11:19pm The score (down to two decimal places no less) is dumb for many reasons. The scores are clearly comparative anyway. I thought that maybe at least waiting until the first runs were done before handing out scores would be better. But a PB commenter had an even better idea: Just rank the runs as they happen. It might not fix...

10/13/2024 11:06pm Reece Wilson on a Gamux would be interesting. Probably has a good chance of nabbing that 100k Gates prize purse thing if it’s still going next year.

10/9/2024 3:27am Accidentally I've noticed a photo in this article where Dario Lillo is appararently racing on a prototype Fox 34 (?) fork with completely new lowers. Pinkbike article: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/xco-photo-epic-mont-sainte-anne-xc-world-… ...after some research, turned out, BrujulaBike guys also noticed it and posted some more close-up photos - the crown is very likely also new: Source: https://en.brujulabike.com/new-fox-fork-spotted-xco-world-cup-lake-plac… I tried to find some more close-up pics for spotting e.g. a Serial Number (which, in case of Fox could tell us hell a lot of more info
) but haven't found anything yet. (Sorry, if this has been already posted, tried to double-check but I haven't...

10/8/2024 11:23pm I’ve been super interested to see the reach and stack on Bruni’s proto demo. I don’t know if it’s his unique style but to me it always looked shorter and perhaps maybe a bit taller than the rest of the similarly sized field.

10/2/2024 10:06am I'd be willing to bet the smaller increments (and hence perfectly sized/fitted bike) would not stop said person from crashing

9/23/2024 10:45pm There should be a law that once a product is EOL and is not supported anymore, the specs for the spare parts should be freely published. Including, for example, the dimensions of frame parts to be able to either weld up cracked parts to correct dimensions or have someone be able to recreate things. Right to repair really can't come quickly enough.

9/13/2024 3:44am When it comes to derailleur cages, there really is only one way to do things. Two pulley wheels on an arm. If I’m not mistaken our cage is the only one where the structural arm traverses from the outside of the upper pulley to the inside of the lower pulley. We wanted it to at least be different in some way. Kogel cages maybe look more similar for what it’s worth. The reason this annoys me, though, is we developed a novel chain guide a few years ago. The design is actually patented in the US. That design was copied...

9/8/2024 6:47am Theo even said in his insta post that he was half a point shy of their selection criteria because of the shortened the selection time frame, and he raced internationally missing two races in South Africa. 7 points where needed to be selected under the primary criteria. Riders who didn't fill the primary and secondary criteria and are self-funded could have been picked under the tertiary criteria but needed to have the potential to be one of the top three ranked South Africans on the UCI DHI individual rankings at the end of 2024 such that their performance at World...

8/27/2024 10:30am Similar product, spotted at the Snow Summit National last weekend behind someone's van. Asked and he said they work great, exactly as intended. We compared notes about how blown away we both were the first time riding a heavy ebike through choppy rough stuff. The front one is apparently an off-the-shelf moto product that fits a Dorado upper leg without modifications. And yes, these are definitely suspended mass dampers. Sadly, this bike needed a steering damper and hand guards to win bike tech bingo.

8/18/2024 1:25am Alternate ending: Rider shrugs and heads back up for more laps. Rather than endlessly fiddling with shock settings, they just get used to how the bike rides. They get faster, more confident, more faster, more confident. Lap times tumble, the confidence is there. Come finals the heavens open while they’re waiting to drop. Other riders scramble, calling Jordie asking for...

Primoz Liked a reply to forum topic Poll: Electric shifting vs mechanical shifting
7/27/2024 11:17pm Not a fan. Most of it has already been pointed out, electronic shifting hardly adds anything to the average bike experience, bar a few exceptions to the rule (lighter actuation to take care of wrists, automatic shifting for the ebike crowd). It only adds cost, weight and complexity for the majority of people. As I've said in the rumors thread though, to counter @Johnboy , always having had manual cars, I would LOVE an automatic transmission in my car (or an electric car for that matter) when it comes to the daily driver. I couldn't care less about noticing which...
