lol these are brutal to watch now. I made a channel that did this. And GoPro took the channel down (with strikes) right before they started uploading the same thing. I love that they are at least doing them, and didn't just nuke my channel for funziez. But now I can't really play with my passion project Sad

Beyond that in mtbing that first generation only had to compete against themselves. The second generation only really had to compete against themselves (other than Greg and peaty) and most of them only started riding and racing mtbs as teens in pretty small fields. Now you have kids who grew up riding and racing modern bikes in large fields of riders and or developed mtb communities. And it shows in the results. It’s going to continue to get way more competitive from here on out. Pretty much every pro/team manager/industry insider constantly talks about how much more competitive it is...

All sports have gotten more professional, especially the non traditional "stick and ball" sports, and because of that the entire field is significantly better than it used to be. Margins are tighter and there's just more "capital from investors" looking for a return on said investment. And even if these guys were training just as hard "back then" as they do now, their training wasn't nearly as effective as the sport specific training top level athletes have access to now. A lot of this has to do with advances in sports science and performance, but also the equipment meant to...

Pretty much every bike shop I've seen in the UK will have metal waste bins, separate from the general waste. This is then taken off to be separated into different metals and recycled. Scrap metal is worth money.

Aluminum is recyclable but do AL bikes ever actually get recycled? I think every bike bike ever ends up getting resold & ultimately in the hands of a random tweaker then ends it’s life either in a landfill or at the bottom of a body of water lol. Has anybody ever actually taken a bike to a scrap yard?

Feel like it's time to give a trip report, since we've been back a few days: Flew into Nice. Stayed there for a night in old town area. Very walkable and nice (hah). Trained over to Finale Ligure the next day. Got a recently renovated apartment in Finalborgo area, which was just awesome. Since my wife and other son weren't riding, we debated between Finale Ligure proper (proximity to the beach) and Finalborgo (proximity to riding). We ended up staying in Finalborgo, and I think it was the right move. Finale is nice, but it feels like a modern city...

Looking at Amaury's GoPro of his winning run (embedded below), the first thing that stands out is the pure mix of aggression and flow. The amount of speed he manages to generate in some of those sloppy, greasy turns is quite simply incredible. The second thing is the precision. Insane! Look at this frame grab, he was hauling the mail in this section and fully committed to this tiny little gap between two painted rocks. Crazy! GoPro run:

Flashback to Marshy with a caulking gun loaded w/ Liquid Nails (or something similar) to glue Greg's tires onto the rims a few years back...

Wonder how much Drag Dakota's hair causes. He could probably shave 4 seconds with a haircut.

Man I was ready for some VDS race talk and instead I'm greeted with Vital's most notorious gangster starting a conspiracy theory where he's really super bummed that DH MTBing isn't like Supercross where we have Monster girls in every shot at all times lol So super duper weird when a race video is about racing and a male dominated sport has videos full of a 'buncha dudes' ugh so lame where are the eye candy bimbos to make the vid better... -_-
