Speaking of prototypes, in the vital pit bits the Santa Cruz mechanic dished out a ton of new Saint details. 12spd chain, 8spd microspline cassette. Must be close to release...

There is only one link down by the BB so it's a flexure. In my mind there are two distinct approaches to flex that we see. There's the method where there's one particular point (realistically a short section) on either the chain stay or seat stay that is designed to provide pretty much all the flex or there's the method where you're relying on deflection of essentially a cantilevered beam. This would be the latter.

I agree with your assertion, but there is something important to add too. Economics drives culture, and vice versa. There is a not insignificant portion of the population in the US that can't take risks, both physical and economic. A bad accident could put a family in generational medical debt, and you can't take half a year off to go...
Maybe Scott tries to claim that - heating is definitely an issue but 95% of the time the airflow over an "external" shock is enough that they reach an equilibrium and don't normally exceed 40-50 degrees in regular use. Extreme, high speed descents might get a bit hotter but high speed = high air flow so most of the time things balance out. On the dyno though if you run a shock at a speed roughly equivalent to the average energy of a DH run, it will heat at a constant rate and can reach 60 degrees in 3 minutes...

Came across this on Loic’s bike from Les Gets. It looks like the sub-chamber from a push 9.1 modified to fit the Öhlins dh38? I know it’s been rumoured that Loic runs a coil fork, so interesting if he’s play with the sub-chamber on a coil fork now too.

I think so yeah. I always kind of laughed at the overheating comments because I feel like riders will worry about that so heavily to write it off, then they go ride their Specialized Enduro with 18 of the 20 bearings notching and a lightly blown coil but still enjoy their ride to some degree. (Nothing against people that ride an Enduro, just jabbing at the insane number of bearings to worry about)

Wasn’t there a huge discussion here last year about that and the conclusion basically came down to airflow being negligible in cooling an mtb shock?

Sorry to re derail the topic (not actually sorry). The top quintile for France, for total household consumption (all income, benefits, & public benefits) is about $49,000 USD. The 2nd highest quintile is about $38,000 USD. The average household income for the LOWEST quintile in the United States is $35,000 a year. The second lowest is $50,000, slightly higher than France's top quintile. This is the quintile that includes all French millionaires and billionaires. Keep in mind that the average household size in the United States is larger than France too. The average price of gasoline in France, converted to...

The media misreported; there was a final meeting yesterday where the law firm handling the bankruptcy case for RAD, the prior owner of Rocky Mountain, announced that there were no more funds to be allocated for unsecured creditors. I assume the file is now closed. Rocky Mountain Bicycles, under the recent Chaos Sports acquisition, is alive and well.

This is not standard brand related economics, but I want to get a better picture of Gee Atherton and his desire to do crazy shit. How much money does he make when he makes one of his risky edits? Does he get paid handsomely to keep going back doing it? They are often on location or with huge build budgets, but on the other hand Red Bull is often involved. I am sure it is a brand value play from Atherton, as he's likely not able to pay himself a huge amount given the size of the outfit. Is likely...

has scott finally learnt, you can hide the shock etc but putting cables through the headset kills sales.... I wouldve owned the genius/ransom but they had to put a plastic ring with headset routing... yeah no, no plastic in headsets thanks.

I assume the damper has been flipped so that the compression adjustment sits on the bottom now.
