Regarding " And we are losing people perfectly capable of winning the race on race day from participating..." this one is interesting to me. If they are perfectly capable of winning on race day, then they are surely capable of qualifying for one of the 30 spots. A few other people have expressed the same opinion "but we are losing some of the fast guys now..." which seems to imply that the new qualifying format is somehow putting some of the fast guys at a disadvantage? I think there's definitely a generational shift going on, and many of the riders...

Cathro just posted a video on the other side regarding electronic lockouts. One thing I've been considering for a while now, is what is legal with regards to electronic suspension and pre-programming various settings for position on track. From a simplicity perspective, GPS would be the most ideal way to do that, but the nature of mtb trails with trees/cloud cover/mountains etc with GPS isn't perfect. The solution to that, would be to have infrared or NFC (RFID) or bluetooth triggers at certain points next to the track to trigger the changes in bike/suspension setup. This all ties in with...

I think the pad is there since it's assumed riders will be clipping it as they try to stay tight through the chicane. A single pole would likely get kicked out repeatedly. I'm not saying it's possible in this section, but since the pole is outside the pad, wouldn't it be legal to jump over the pad instead of zig-zagging around it?
