The VitalForum Law: Given sufficient length all threads descend into tech talk...regardless of the orignal purpose of the thread.

I dm'ed Chris Kilmurray to send him the Caltopo, and commented on how rocky I think it will be (he uses Caltopo for track gradient too). He said "average gradient is pretty shallow. Snowshoe style... More good variety in the tracks and terrain we are racing this year. It's been a pretty "complete" series so far. definitely need some rocks though. Not had many rocks this year yet" I think it's probably shaping up to be a more modern version of a Snoeshoe style track, although the dirt in the 'dacks is more loamy and sandy than the clay rich...

Completely off topic, but here is what seems to be a pretty final Whiteface WC track map:

No so sure about the strategy of, in fairly quick succession, having a huge sale and taking a bunch of people's money, sending them an email telling them neither the bike nor a refund are imminent, and then launching a new version of a bike called the "decoy."

If you haven't watched it yet, drop everything and watch the 35 second video on the link in the original post (above my comment). And yes, you need to watch the WHOLE 35 seconds.

I might be in the minority when I say that I'm fine with the current Q1/Q2 arrangement and the 30-rider finals. If they expanded the finals field to, say, 40 men's Elite riders and 20 women's Elite (or even more in both groups) I imagine one of the other changes they'd make is to reduce the gaps in the starting times, resulting in at least half the finals riders getting less of their runs shown. At the most recent race it took 1 1/2 hours for just the men's finalists to make their runs.

I thought my understanding was that Bruni tried to trademark the name SuperBruni, and Warner Brothers shot him down by challenging it. So as a way to create good will they came up with this scheme this weekend where he would get paid to cross promote it, ironically if the money did go to prizes he would've got some. It doesn't sit perfect with me as a viewer, but marketers are going to do marketing stuff.

He's been pretty solid, but I think he probably did so well in Poland because the crazy conditions played to his enduro background. Most of the other riders have already had so much time riding at the ragged edge of raw speed on a blown out dry track --Loudenvielle, Leogang, VDS, La Thuille, Andorra were all like that. I think we might see Ritchie do better in Lake Placid and MSA where there are more tight wooded rocky sections like those he's ridden in Enduro for the past decade.

It's really the first race of the season that's kept them that close. Jackson picked up only 50 points at that race while Loic got the max - 300 points - after qualifying 1st and winning the race. It would be great if the overall came down to the final race of the season rather than being wrapped up before then. With the final race being in Mont-Sainte-Anne the crowd energy could be epic, especially if Gracey is also in position to win the overall.

It's nuts how close the men's elite standings are right now considering that Jackson won four of the first five and two thirds of the races so far. After Loic won in Andorra, it's only 150 or so points separating him and Jackson, which is less than the points for one win.
