If there was millions of new viewers in dh at least some of them would be commenting here, pinkbike, YouTube, etc. search engines work pretty damn well. I haven’t seen any. But I have seen countless comments of lifetime fans of the sports who have stopped watching. And if they cut semis and keep the rider count for finals at 15/30 I may find a way to watch but I’m not going to pay for gcn or discovery plus or whatever app it’s on. And I would hope for the sake of the future of the sport the riders seriously...

It's cool to see Bentonville pumping money into the sport and building lots of trails. But training for mtb without convenient access to long sustained climbs or descents seems a rather questionable decision.

This is some stark privilege on display by what are essentially freelance marketing contractors. Tens of thousands of tech layoffs happened this year, devastating families and disrupting lives for many who will be forced to leave the U.S. These glorified social media influencers using their platform to complain about this and how Specialized handled it is really something to behold. I'm surprised this program existed on the scale that it did in the first place. Reality hits hard when you live with your head in the clouds, I guess.

I think the bigger problem is that we don't really have a strong national series... NORBA back in the hay day rivaled the WC as far as size goes... USAC managed to screw it up, much like anything else they touched... We have some strong regional series, but when was the last time we saw a huge national series that had DH, XC, and DS ? To be relevant today, Enduro would need to be thrown in today... It would be cool if someone was able to bring that back and make the US race scene something that is noticeable...

Specialized dropped all their ambassadors this morning. Pretty wild move, and kind of a bummer. They helped support a lot of people, and really bad timing for those riders trying to find something for next year.

Is it that they don't meet WC standards or that they got a bad ROI on hosting the races? It takes a lot of money to get a WC event... How much do they make? Is there a profit? Break even? Who's shelling out the money? There's usually a reason races when the races stop going to a venue.. Sometimes it's the venue realized that it wasn't worth it..

Few points to consider here. First, the bike community seems to really want an F1 style world cup circuit. Something that spans the globe, features more races than we currently have, is covered extensively and is fun to watch. You know what that takes? Money. A lot of money. Second, there seems to be perpetual bitching and moaning about the poor pay, lack of healthcare, etc for all racers at the highest level (well, almost all racers). This is especially true on the women's side. You know what this takes to fix? Yup. Money. Go to any big race, look...

if you drop it to 30 riders you cant have protected riders IMO. imagine this, your a young Aussie/Kiwi, you save up hard for 2 years to live the dream in a Ford Transit van and eating nothing but Service station food and drinking cheap Czech beer for 4 months of summer. I'm going to go out on a limb with this one...as a cliche American that has gone absolutely all-in on F1 because of Drive to Survive, Could Discovery/UCI/Secrete DH racing Cabal be trying to change the rules and qualifying in an attempt to resemble the structure of F1? Having fewer teams, and having them be the bigger factory teams makes it easier to follow for a casual/new viewer. Similarly, focusing the broadcast coverage on a smaller group of riders, 20-30, allows viewers to pick a couple of favorites and consistently root for them.
