Mick Hannah on leaving the UR team. " I had an opportunity present itself that aligns better with my family and racing goals and I made the tough decision to leave the team. Quote yesterday from the Governor of CT email that goes out every weekday: “Of the 1,695 patients currently hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19, 965 (56.9%) are not fully vaccinated. For the week beginning January 9, 2022, unvaccinated persons had a 3.2x greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19 compared to fully vaccinated persons. For the week beginning January 9, 2022, unvaccinated persons had a 13.9x greater risk of dying from COVID-19 compared to fully vaccinated persons.”

But I think it's cheaper to support a slope/freeride program than a racing program (not talking about just rider salaries). A race team needs a ton of support from manager to mechanics to physios to cooks. Plus, you're handling the travel arrangements for the entire team and support staff and equipment. Freeriders and slope riders are almost self-supported. So, yes, you may have to pay the rider's salary and some travel budget, but you're not also paying for an entire support staff to go along with the rider. Amanda Batty blocks anyone who disagrees with her in the slightest and bullies other female riders that post anything she considers exploitative. I got blocked for sticking up for another rider she was shaming. She's not interested in discussion. Yep, our sport needs to be inclusive for women and people from more diverse backgrounds. I don't think her approach is helping. Anyways, back to team rumours.

I don't really care one way or the other, nor am I triggered. I'm also not judging the models. They're free to do whatever they want and make a living however they see fit. I'm all for legalizing and legitimizing the sex worker industry, in all honesty. What I (and I think most others) are critiquing is the judgement of these boys in putting together the calendar and that it's pretty out of touch with the imagery that the industry (and sponsors) want to associate with.

I don't think anyone is mad about seeing pics of "chicks." I think that people are questioning the judgement of a group of male athletes who were putting out a product based on the objectification of women, in a sport that is trying to equalize women's role as participating athletes, not relegate them to arm candy and "monster girls."

Look no further than my 11 year old as an example of what sells bikes. Raised with Rampage, Crankworx and WC media coverage he stills goes back to watching old editions of his favorite events. He's a two weeks a year park rat and wants a DH bike someday. This year we let him choose his next bike and his top choices, Propain, Commencal and Trek (we intervened though and got him a Transition). He admires Gwin but has no interest in a YT or Intense.
