Buckets Up Added a reply to Assegai no grip zone
6/15/2026 12:00pm This is wild and speaks to different people’s experiences. I dislike the DHF because I don’t think it offers any improved cornering grip and the grip that is there is vague and hard to tell when you’re near the limit. The Assegai on the other hand has better grip overall and I can tell better where I am at relative...

Buckets Up Added a reply to Mini Mullets?
6/11/2026 2:18pm I have a Commencal Clash I can set up super-mini-mullet (26” front, 24” rear). On the right trails it is super duper fun.

6/11/2026 12:23pm I was listening to a road biking podcast recently. One of the guests on the podcast is currently a DS for a bigger team and used to be a world tour rider. One of the things that came up in discussion is how absolutely insane the new generation of riders are. They are SO fast. They are SO good in their training. They are SO dialed in their nutrition and recovery. The guest made a point to bring up an interesting-to-me factoid: They can't let the younger riders anywhere near the big-name riders during team training rides. None of them...

6/11/2026 10:59am A couple very subtle and easy tweaks to that helmet (e.g., visor shape, outer pad fabric) and a better paint job could make it look so much better. All of that would’ve essentially been free during development. How do you miss the aesthetic mark that bad?!

6/10/2026 1:10pm Yes! It’s great the men will have to practice in that first session! Just like the removal of protection and the euros having to deal with Korean jet lag, it’s nice to switch it up. The women’s racing is definitely the best it’s ever been, they deserve the spotlight. And it’ll be interesting to see how the colder wetter shorter (?) less dialed practice affects which men how…

Buckets Up Added a comment about press release Öhlins Introduces New Downhill Crown for DH38
6/7/2026 5:02am ~$500 dollars for a set of ‘DH’ crowns to ‘upgrade’ your dual crown forks which should have already been optimized for DH is diabolical. Let me just make my $2000 forks 25% more expensive because I got sold inferior crowns.

6/6/2026 11:09am You don't have to miss it Charlie! I went with the Simonetti method on my Dreadnought with help from @JankyEric and I like it! There is the occasional rattle here and there but definitely a must when swapping brakes often. Amazon's where it's at. I am kind of with you though. There's a good chance my next bike won't have internal routing for that reason.

6/4/2026 3:59pm It’s a vertical shock alignment similar to the old Diamondback Knucklebox design (mentioned above) or a Propain. Nothing to patent. It’s just a Utah County based company thinking it needs overdo marketing as they’re prone to do. Utah is the land of perceived aesthetics.

6/4/2026 8:56am Torrent is clean. Bottle rocket is adjustable freeride. Quake is a capable race geo. (Iirc) Different bikes for different folks . I freeride and park my race bikes - and xc ride my enduro bike. But the world does seem to want FUN 27.5 park bikes and the racers do seem to want FAST DH WEAPONS. Why can’t we have both? The marketing isn’t even for us. There are literally armies of 15 year old boys AND GIRLS! Getting really into modern freeride, just riding down shit and off shit and being park rats in jnco jeans where I live...

6/4/2026 7:56am Most geometry adjustments are flaw not a feature to some people. I have ridden enough bikes over the years that I can adjust to a few mm or a degree here or there quickly. What I want is the simplest, easiest, most reliable frame. Adding in flip chips and adjustable headset cups just adds more places for tolerance stack-up to...

6/4/2026 4:59am I will probably get flamed for this, and will offer the caveat that I have only been skimming this page, but I feel like these bikes are great propositions and are in my eyes cool bikes because they’re made to be cheap and practical workhorses for younger demographics that don’t have as much disposable income and want a playful park bike that they can maintain themselves. Maybe I’m just haven’t been following the thread well enough, but I don’t see why the ebike bit is necessary to explain the appeal. Not everyone can afford bougie boutique racing machines, or ebikes...

5/29/2026 10:09am Not exactly. Adjustment range would mostly depend on the length of the bearing seats. Since bearing spacing is mostly fixed to your headtube, you can only raise the top crown as much as there is space on the upper bearing post thingy to put a spacer on top of the bearing, to be able to raise the crown but keep bearing in same position. Or maybe im overthinking it.
