Yeah, there were some great all-arounders. But also, in the 90s, there were a ton of folks who came straight from road riding and could barely nose over a log. Some of those "trials" events, held at CC races were super-amateur. I'd wager that your average CC racer of today is WAY more competent on tech than the average late 80s / 90s CC rider. I do think that the specific fields are so much more competitive, today, though. I mean, particularly this year, we are seeing the arrival of pro downhillers who have been training their brains / bodies...

One of the key guys at Banshee also posted on his stories a few weeks ago about testing a proto/new DH bike. Didn't get screengrabs, but it didn't show much. Probably be seen on the MSC later this year is my guess

Dario from PB was riding one at Sun Peaks July 2/3 (think they were doing a field test, saw Matt Beer and Jesse Melamed aswell). He just grinned at the question of how to compares to the old one. Dunno if was anything but I also saw a Banshee DH bike at Silverstar two days later with a bunch of telemetry related stuff on the rear of the bike, not keen enough to have noticed if it was a revised Legend or if it pertained to the rear shock (didn't recognize it)

Will it be dumb to ask what is the reason not to use Saint levers in the first place? Whats the diference between them and any other servowave shimano lever?

It's either going to be progressively getting quieter or E bike talk will have to sneak in. That is where all the innovation is coming from in the next few years. P.s gearboxes are epic and should be the future but my experience of riding on a pinion box is akin to that of riding with a regular bottom bracket that is full of gravel and has blown bearings. Pretty slow and gross. Quiet on the descents though.

So... In terms of triple headers, this has got to be the best venue on the UCI MTB circuit right? The downhill track is sick, the XC track nearly looked like an enduro track I saw dudes gapping rock gardens on 120/120 bikes... And the enduro looked gnarlier than the DH including a night stage (on maybe the hardest section). Not sure how many other triple headers there are, or even double headers for that matter... But wow this new venue seems to have done everything 'right'

From the article: He said he's tried to build a culture at Trek that "confronts the brutal facts," moves fast, and always seeks to learn. When people tell him he's wrong, he said, he gets curious. "I'm more interested in how we improve. I'm not interested in proving that we're right." From being on the inside the last few years, one of the biggest problems is that he has surrounded himself with yes men and ignored what the people he employs have suggested across various choices and has done little to show he was responsible for the bad decisions. With...

Great question. To your point, I think the cannibalism is worse than that, because instead of wanting multiple pedal bikes for different sorts of pedal days with granular differences between each model, one ebike is pretty much fine for everything. In the past, as a MTB pedaler, I would have loved to have at least three mountain bikes: a long travel enduro bike, a shorter travel trail bike, and maybe a hardtail or XC bike. Maybe more. If I wanted to give up on pedaling and get an ebike instead, I don't need two ebikes. For ebikers who want to...
