1199 in Whistler is going to be a spectacle. After a couple days of rain the sun has come out. It was still a bit wet in a few spots but generally perfect conditions on track yesterday for first practice, and the weather looks great for seeding and racing as well. A good mix of young rippers, dark horses, and some World Cup riders. Jackson is flying, Asa and Gwin looked good too. Some other fast dudes as well but I didn't have my start list handy so I'm not sure who I was looking at. Great spectator access all...

I just got back from a week long trip to whistler where due to some family issues (sick pet) and friends cancelling last minute, I was mostly riding alone. I had a buddy join me for a few hours on 2 days, but other than that, I was left alone with my mediocre riding skills and my thoughts. I run a 12mm strip of Gorilla Tape over the tubeless tape to stop spoke puncture. Reenforces the spoke hole while eliminating the irritating Gorilla Tape removal from the rim. Does make mounting fresh tires a bit harder since it nixes a mm or two from the rim's tire drop channel, but on the plus side the tire pops into place with any floor pump because of that increase in diameter. Picked up the tip from a UK site after a pal had a spoke pop through on a ride then a week later had it happen on my roadish...

I’m thinking about starting a new poll thread. It will be called “would you rather” The options will be: Would you rather take the time to actually read and learn about “ecvt’s” in regards to bikes? Orrrrrrrr…. Would you rather smash up an incandescent light bulb and smash the shards into your eyeballs? This thread is getting exhausting with gearbox nerds.

And 2nd place at the last DH world cup. But I believe the conclusion was that gearboxes are too inefficient to ever be viable, and the answer is a 2x drivetrain. Bonus: when either of your two derailleurs inevitably breaks, home repair is a breeze.
