8/7/2025 11:46am Im certainly curious about the Fox details. Specifically pealing off the automotive numbers and looking at some of their other non-suspension brands. On the surface it seems like Fox is still a market leader in the suspension category both in the AM and OEM. However, unless im missing something, their other brands seem to be on the back-burner a bit? Im not deep in the gravel or road space but Easton's stuff seems to be lacking much excitement for some time now. RC doesnt have the buzz it did before it was bought by Fox; and the footwear space has...

8/6/2025 2:05pm If you don't need 3L of water in it and can make do with ~1.5L of water, vest-style packs are awesome and don't move around at all. You may or may not have noticed that as EDR has gone back to long-ass days on the bike, a number of the racers are running these now. I like the Evoc ones...

8/6/2025 11:49am Assuming equal chain growth numbers, no linkage system can make your wheel more likely to roll forward as opposed to rotate the cranks backwards. Chain tension is always resolved by torque at the cranks. This is basically why you are able to pedal a bike. If chain tension didn't require torque at the cranks you'd have something similar to a perpetual motion machine or you'd be able to propel the bike forward by just bouncing up and down on the seat with your legs straight out to the side (while that one is silly too, it does actually involve energy...

8/6/2025 11:20am Hahaha "They are claiming their paid channels have significantly more views than the highlight shows on the most popular (and free) streaming platform in the world." @sspomer, well put. I agree, this reporting seems off. Anecdotally, most people I know now ONLY watch the highlights because its free. Which is a shame because the racing has been bonkers these last few years.

8/6/2025 9:02am I'm sorry, I can't help it: An impact that " forces the rear wheel to rotate forwards" is the same thing as an impact that " deals with chain growth by rotating the pedals backward or stiffening the suspension." In the above diagram, the red force is the impact at the rear wheel. As the rear wheel is being held back by the red impact force, the rear center is growing, which is creating chain tension, which also stiffens the suspension. The suspension can't compress and absorb the bump until the increasing chain tension is relieved, and the chain tension...

8/6/2025 6:58am The Path in Orange County had a fairly strange scenario, that seemed like a drawn out location swap more than anything. Basically they made a new location, that would function as the 'normal' bike shop... And the old location became an 'outlet' store to sell clearance items and it just had a shit ton of stuff for a while. They recently blew most of that out, whatever is left, and are now closing the old 'outlet' store, saying there is not enough inventory left over to justify the location. Again, it really just sounds like a prolonged location swap where...

8/5/2025 12:32pm AI chatbots only regurgitate words it's found online in a different order, so the better option would be to see what actual dirt jumpers do, rather than using a glorified thesaurus to do your thinking for you. AI has its place for consolidating information, but this isn't it.

8/4/2025 1:48pm Why are you saying that's wild? That's the go-to setup for Maxxis World Cup DH riders in dusty/loose stuff. Once the new DHF is more widely available, that will change a bit since it has better braking the the HR3 but can still punch deeper and better than an Assegai.

8/4/2025 6:53am That combo absolutely Rips, as someone who isn’t putting on a different set of rubber for every track or condition it’s my favourite to date. Its good on hard pack but when it gets wet or dusty it’s absolutely great

7/31/2025 7:45pm I know KTM's troubles might go beyond the boundary of this thread but considering the number of similarities and the fact it was e-bikes that sank the company some of you may find my latest post worthwhile ( substack // blog) One thing I find very interesting is how much control KTM has over inventory control (dirt bikes, not e bikes) and re-stablizing the market. Turns out, when there are only a handful of players in a market, and one player has a particular niche cornered (KTM/Husky/GasGas owns the off road market), they can more easily fix a problem by...

7/31/2025 12:28pm Anything Novatec I've had the misfortune of using has been absolute garbage tier, I wouldn't be sad at all to see them gone completely.

7/31/2025 12:24pm Huh. Novatec USA closing is a bit of a funny one. I don't actually know what they did in the US, but maybe that's because I'm Canadian. My only real memories of Novatec stuff is bike manufacturers speccing their front hubs deep into their high end product catalogue and their rear hubs at the pricepoint models. Parts support was non-existent from Novatec itself, the frame manufacturers ended up keeping stock themselves of some service parts. Strange to learn they had a USA operation this whole time.
