Junior men do not get points in qualification. Also, this track seems to be heavily reliant on maintaining speed out of and between the steep bits, not so much who can go balls to the wall like VdS. An extra MPH through the jumps and that final section along the wall could mean upwards of 3 seconds if you have the long legs to absorb the lips at extra speed. After watching the helmet cameras, Minnaar is my top pick for the final.

10/29/2020 10:12am Using the word "raw" is fine as long as it's actually free of music, slow motion, and other alterations. I am annoyed by the use of "RAW" all capitalized. They could have named it something else, but probably want to take advantage of the extra views and SEO it will bring them. Yes, it's not trademarked or anything legally theirs...

Thanks for the feedback team. One point which might not have been crystal clear in my article. If you cant get the points, you enter via the national jersey. Then travel to your first world cup and if all the stars align and you qualify for finals. Then, in my opinion you have the speed, the talent and you've proved yourself. So you should be able to enter yourself into the following race. Great article, Eddie. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't this all been done on purpose with the express intent of killing privateer racing? For their broadcast Red Bull wants recognizable names (top athletes only), lots of jumps and high speed for video (machine-built trails as opposed to technical, roots, etc), and close race times (smooth and fast instead of slow and tech). I know RB was the driving force behind the reduced finals entrants and protected riders always going last, knocking even more fast privateers off of the broadcast. I really don't feel that guaranteeing the top 20 (or top-10 current and top-10 prior year) TV time offers the viewer enough value to outweigh the opportunity taken from a fast Euro-random to make the broadcast (and us the opportunity to watch those awesome runs!). Unless the teams have made some non-public deal with RB/UCI to ensure their sponsorship exposure requirements, the rule changes don't make sense.

It's crazy out here. Keith Darner said "I'll never host another DH race again" because costs are so high to run a race and racer turnout is so low. Driving across the country multiple times one year to earn the right to enter a WC race the next year is stupid.

Brines and Eddie are right- this ain't a new problem at all. I speak from personal experience in the late 90's when I ate an extremely hard to get $600 on a plane ticket I couldn't use to travel to Italy, Slovenia, and France for 3 WC DH races. For USA riders last year, there were only 5 chances to earn UCI points domestically, the four Pro GRT rounds and National Champs. Of those 5, only Windrock and Nationals had enough points on offer to get a racer to the minimum needed to race a World Cup (Mountain Creek only awarded 10 points to the winner with Rd. 2 and 4 earning 30). Yes, that's mostly correct. The only things that really matter (in no particular order) are: - Frame geometry - Suspension kinematics (frame) - Dampers (fork and shock) - Spring rates - Braking power - Tire casing - Tire compound - All other components are clean and well-maintained The cheapest build may not have the brakes or dampers but all else will pretty much be the same performance as the flagship build. Any build level will still require you to buy aftermarket tires if you want dh casing and soft compound.

Great list, Jeff231. I totally agree. Beyond those products, it all becomes tuning the parts on your bike for your personal preference, like bar width and angles, bar height, stem length, which brand of pedals you're comfy on, which saddle you like, tire inserts if you want them, etc. And those items aren't really about "upgrading" as much as they are about tuning. For instance, there are $45 saddles that feel better than $160 saddles (cough cough Giant).

Umm...pretty easy. You get tested at airport on arrival. US ski team has been in Austria for a couple of weeks. Luca Shaw has been racing and training in Europe for a couple of months.

That off line mishap with the 29 was worth at least 4.5 seconds given the long flat afterwards. This was a great video, hopefully you guys do more of the back to back stuff with timing in the future! Maybe a Sender vs. Demo run on WC in Durango?
